With summer (sadly) winding down we know a lot of you are getting ready to pack up your RVs for the season. We get a lot of questions this time of year about RV battery care so we thought we'd answer a few of the most common questions here. "If my RV is plugged in over the winter is it safe to leave my battery in?" The answer to this question depends on your particular RV. Most newer RVs are equipped with chargers that will not allow the battery to overcharge when not in use.... Older RVs typically do not have this. If you know that your unit will not overcharge then you should be fine to leave it plugged in with the battery over the winter. "My RV is not plugged in over the winter. Can I leave my battery in the RV?" Yes you can leave your battery in your unplugged RV over the winter. Just make sure your battery is fully charged and then disconnected before you park it for the season. "I plan to remove my RV battery and store it indoors over the winter. I have heard that you should never store a battery on a concrete floor, is that true?" The most important consideration when storing your battery is that it is a dry place. A concrete floor, a shelving unit, etc are all fine as long as the battery is dry. Again, make sure your battery if fully charged before you store it. TIP - Before you disconnect your battery mark your cables (negative/positive) to avoid any mix ups when you go to reconnect next season!
