Downtown Regina Cultural Trailway: Royal Canadian Legion Regina’s Royal Canadian Legion Building was built in two phases between 1947 and 1951. Its official opening of Memorial Hall in October 1951 was attended by Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The architecture of the building has strong Art Deco influences. Inside the auditorium foyer, known as the Memorial Chamber, are a number of elements of architectural, artistic and historic significance.... Some of these elements include a nine foot Cross of Sacrifice, made of Tyndall Stone donated by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Regina Branch, stained glass windows and wall murals depicting Canadian Military history. Between 2013 and 2015, the Legion underwent large-scale renovations and the installation of a parkade at the rear of the building. When you are shopping, consider supporting one of downtown Regina’s many locally-owned and operated stores, restaurants, coffee shops, spas or salons. Don’t feel safe shopping in-person? Gift cards are always a great option! You can also contact your favourite local business to ask about their onlin...e, takeout or delivery options. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for supporting local. #SupportLocal #StaySafe #yqrdt #WhereItsAtDt #ReconnectAtTheHeart See more

Downtown Regina Cultural Trailway: Victoria Park For over 130 years Victoria Park, originally called Victoria Square, has been the center of Regina. Named after Queen Victoria, the park was reserved by the Town Site Committee in 1883 as a two block municipal reserve. As Regina grew, so did the park. In 1907, what was once a barren field was turned into a more pleasing park by Frederick Todd who incorporated the radial design you’ll notice today. In 1908, a fountain was buil...t in the park’s center, but was later replaced with the Cenotaph. The Cenotaph was designed by R.W.G. Heughan, and depicts a figure of a solider that links it with other memorials in Belgium and England. There are several memorial pieces standing in the park today. In the southeast end of the park there is a cairn dedicated to Louis Riel, who was tried for treason in a now-demolished courthouse that stood on the corner of Victoria Avenue and Scarth Street. Fun fact: The park currently hosts some of Regina’s most popular events such as a Farmer’s Market, the Rink at City Square, Folk Festival, Cinema Under The Stars, and more! Week 7 of our Downtown Regina Cultural Trailway series we have the Frontenac Apartments. Completed in 1930, the Frontenac Apartments were commissioned by Provincial Apartments Limited. The original hope for the building was to rival the prestigious Balfour Apartments located just in front. However, as a result of the Great depression, the Frontenac Apartments were scaled back to four storeys and its two elevator shafts never had lifts installed. Designed in a Spanish-Medite...rranean Revival style, the unique Frontenac Apartments were home to many of Regina’s doctors, lawyers, and one of the buildings architects, William Van Egmond. When it was originally built, the building was admired for having the largest living rooms in the entire city. In 2016, the Frontenac Apartments received Municipal Heritage Property status making them eligible for funding for repairs and refurbishment so that they will remain available for many generations to come. Welcome to Regina Downtown, Good Spirit Kombucha! In August 2020 the local Regina Kombucha company relocated their operations from a small but mighty pilot brewery into a commercial brewing space on Scarth Street. Their original pilot brewery featured 12 small brewing tanks (each holding 114 litres) while the new facility is equipped with 7 large tanks (each holding 1000 litres) so much ‘Booch! Lead operating partners Taylor and Colleen have been busy at work learning the r...opes on their new equipment, including taking the canning line for a spin! What previously took 21-hours to bottle BY HAND is now reduced to just 4-hours on the canning line. The silver lining for Colleen is the hopes of a future where she doesn’t need to use a wrist brace anymorecurse you pesky bottle capping machine! Owned and operated by local Reginian’s, Good Spirit Kombucha is proud to be providing Saskatchewan and hopefully soon, all of Western Canada - with a functional alternative to other pop and alcoholic beverages.
