Regina Lyric Musical Theatre 31.01.2021

We may be living in a virtual world, but we’re creative people who will find a way to make it work. The cast of Flip the Script had a meet and greet to talk about how much we all miss music and how excited we are to start this show. Proper cast headshots and bios will be coming soon. But we did our best meeting new and familiar faces on screen.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jacqui Schumiatcher. She was truly a beacon of the Saskatchewan arts community. Her generosity was unparalleled as she not only supported major musical organizations, but also many small community arts programs such as Lyric. She was more than a patron, but also a true friend to many of our members. It was a privilege to perform many Lyric shows with Jacqui in the audience. Through her support for music and arts as a donor and avid audience member, Jacqui enriched the culture of this city by allowing everyone to share their passions and talent. She will truly be missed by all who knew her and knew of her.

Call-backs are coming this week! Thank you again to everyone who auditioned! We appreciate your patience as our team worked on a bigger show program to feature more Saskatchewan talent! Singers who are chosen for the show will be getting a phone call this week with your song and rehearsal instructions. To anyone who was not successful or did not audition this time, we hope you will try out again for a future show when we can return to a full chorus sound and ensemble casts! See you online for the show this spring!

If you find yourself bursting into song randomly, you are our people! We know we’ve been quiet on this page which is odd or even suspicious for theatre people, but stay tuned. Our musical director is working on matching singers to songs. Performers chosen for our spring show will be contacted very soon!

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for Flip the Script Broadway in Reverse! We had an amazing response to the call for auditions. Our director Jane Ursan and the production team are excited to begin reviewing your submissions. Performers who are chosen for the show will be contacted directly by phone and email by the Lyric board within two weeks. If you are not selected for this show we truly hope you will try again in the future. It is never easy to narrow down a list when... we have so many talented performers in our province. Lyric normally takes great pride in highlighting a wide range of singers in our fun group numbers, but this year we are limited to solos and by our recording capacity for a virtual show. We hope you will support your fellow singers in May as we broadcast the show to your homes. Bravo and thank you all again for sharing your talent and passion for music! See more

Regina Lyric is celebrating our part in the rich history of community theatre and music. While we cannot rehearse and sing together, on Wednesdays we will look back and remember ‘The Way We Were When...’ this photo was donated for our archives featuring a 1941 production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera Iolanthe! Go to www.reginalyric.com/donate to support local community arts so the show can go on again someday.

Music Matters When the pandemic shut down theatre and music groups around the world we had no idea how long the hiatus would last. Nearly eight months later, there are no clear answers about when performing arts groups can safely return to group rehearsals or live shows. On a normal year we would be preparing for the Lyric Singers Fall Show and the February Fundraising Brunch but this year the risks are too high. As we stay safely apart, we miss the connection so many of our ...community performers found in rehearsals and shows. We also recognize the financial hardships faced by many whose livelihoods depend on the arts. While the curtains are closed, Lyric still has costs to cover for basics like renting space for costumes and props. Through our annual scholarships we also aim to support aspiring performers in pursuit of their dreams. Please consider making even a small donation to help us keep the lights on so the show can go on again someday when it’s safe. Until we meet again, please visit our website www.reginalyric.com/donate to show your support. See more

No Lyric Singers this Fall It is with heavy hearts that the board of Regina Lyric Musical Theatre must announce the cancellation of the Fall 2020 Lyric Singers season. Even with the re-opening of various cultural and athletic activities, group singing, sadly, remains a high-risk activity for the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus. After considering some alternative options, the board ultimately decided it was best to go on hiatus for the remainder of 2020. ... Although acknowledging that singing together at this time poses a risk, we must also remember there are deep social and mental-health benefits to making music, and it is natural to feel saddened by the temporary loss of community music and theatre. We empathize with the financial hardships faced by professional musicians at this time, as well, but we also understand the broader picture of protecting public health. We may be apart, but we in the Regina music and arts community are also in this together. Someday soon the show will go on again, and we hope to see you then.
