"Until now it's not been clear if this contrast sensitivity loss means that patients with glaucoma see visible objects in a different way from healthy people."

You may have heard these terms from your optometrists, but what do they mean? Myopia (near-sightedness): People with myopia are able to see near objects cl...early but struggle with seeing distant objects, such as a board at school or TV screens. Hyperopia (far-sightedness): People with hyperopia find seeing distant objects easier than near objects. They have to use extra effort to focus on things far away and even more effort to see things close up. Amblyopia: Also known as lazy eye, amblyopia is when one eye is unable to see as well as the other eye, even with glasses on. During early childhood, if one eye turns in or out, or if vision is more blurred in one eye than the other, the connections between the brain and the eye are affected, causing amblyopia. Strabismus: Also known as crossed eyes, strabismus is a condition where the eyes do not point in the same direction. The most common type is where the eye turns inwards (towards the nose), but some people experience strabismus where their eye turns out, up or down. If left untreated, strabismus can cause amblyopia (lazy eye).
