Good morning! You most likely have heard of #spirulina as the "superfood of the sea". This past December I did an interview with Lydia from SpiraVeg on all the many benefits in adding it to our diet for our overall health & wellness. #guthealth & how spirulina can benefit our digestive tract is a new topic in North America, where it has been well used in Chinese medicine for a long-time. In addition to being packed with numerous vitamins, it is also a good source of #plantb...asedprotein and #PlantBasedIron. #Candida is a fungas in our gastrointestinal tract and when we have overgrowth (it feasts on processed sugars and carbs) it can release toxins in our blood system & upsets the bodies #phbalance. Systemic Candida has been linked to #leakygut , #IBS, #generalizedanxietydisorder , and autoimmune diseases like #lupus, #hashimotos, & #chronsdisease Now the studies so far have only been clinical, but spiruluna is anti-fungal and #antimicrobial and has been noticed to promote healthy gut bacteria while slowing the growth and reducing candida. Snacks. I Snacks. When picking snacks and being mindful about digestion I try and pick snacks that satisfy the sweet tooth without making digestion sluggish. Strawberry Lemonade Kefir. Move over #kombucha cause #waterkefir wants some of the cool kids fermented drink spotlight time too. When starting with #digestion support with a client, I like to return to the basics. Those simple habits we can all begin to practice at the dinner table. I was asked to do a nutrition talk at a women's health conference a few years ago and I will never forget it. Knowing that most of the speakers were going to talk about "WHAT" we should be eating, "to diet or to #antidiet" and all the other nutrition politics in between those sides ....I choose to flip things around and ta...lk about HOW we should be eating. In all my speaking opportunities, the response by women after was humbling, heart-warming, & eye-opening. Women from all backgrounds and walks of life, simply saying "thank-you for that!". Hearing women being like "we all are pretty over being told what we should do, think, and believe about our bodies!!!". This one lady was like "I just want to throw my hands up in the air with 2 big middle fingers and want to scream ENOUGH!!! so thanks Jo for the refreshing change!". Talking about HOW to eat instead of forcing the WHAT you should eat or what viewpoint you should align with is a pretty #liberating topic when you think about the war within the nutrition industry. Sometimes being like... I'm gonna just Chew my food thanks and start there and see how it goes" can help a lot! As Tabitha Brown always says, "Because it's my business!!" which I love so much when it comes to our own food & body choices.
