These are pictures that are very often seen on your local bodyworkers page. Before and after photos showing you the quality of work, but do you know what youre looking at, what youre looking for. This was a question brought up to me a month ago. How these photos are meant to be taken is you get the horse square (sometimes a horse cant fully do this when out of alignment), and they should be looking straight ahead. Your horse should also be on a flat level surface. This is ...the view we look at when we are in the first stages of our assessment. If you were to put your hand on top of the hip bones on each side, are they even? Is the horse bent a bit more one way. (Youll notice that on one side the shoulder and hip seem to be closer or one shoulder will be higher then the other)? This is the initial part of the assessment, most will confirm what they see by lifting limbs and moving them to assess the ROM (range of motion). In the photos below, youll notice that the horse is in a bend to the right, that the left hip is higher then the right. The second photo shows the hips and shoulders are even in height, no longer the right shoulder and hip are closer together. What youll also notice is that the muscles on the left shoulder are not as well developed. This will happen when the horse is in a bend, that one side will be less developed then the other. As mentioned above, these photos are to give you an idea of how we as bodyworkers can help your horse as well as tools for you to know by sight when to contact us if youre not sure on feel while riding. This is something you can ask your bodyworker to show you how to see on your own horse. Happy Horsing!!
This is so true, especially with those cases who take a bit more time.
Although competition season wasnt what it usually is, Id love to help you finish strong.
Although show season wasnt what it usually is, let me help you be in top shape.
Scar Tissue can be difficult to get rid of, Im so glad to have moxibustion as a tool in my toolbox to help with the process!
The more I work with horses, the more the importance of diet is apparent. Paying close attention to labels is important. A great explination of soy in this article, hope you all enjoy.
Had a great time in red deer yesterday at the Alberta Gypsy Vanner show. Got to watch some great competition and meet some wonderful new people. Congratulations Shannon and Mark, you and your ponies did amazing, and I was so happy to be there.
Very excited to be heading down to the Alberta Gypsy Vanner Show at Westerner Park on Thursday!! Cant wait to meet everyone and all their gorgeous ponies!!
Love it when after working on a horse, they cant seem to stop yawning or are so relaxed that their bottom lip droops enough to make you want to see how many carrots you can fit in. Thank you to all who have me out to do the work I love on those you love!!
An excellent write up. Happy Saturday all!
Its now that time when riding kicks into full gear and weve all thawed out from the frost. Remember that as you increase your work load, stretching your horse is very important. With that in mind, Im reposting, some stretching videos so if you need a reference, its readily available. Happy riding all!!
Would love to thank ATRA inviting me out to speak at their meeting on Thursday evening. It was great to meet everyone and I hope Ill have the privilege of doing so again!! If you have a group interested in having me out for a demo, Id love to hear from you!!
Well, its official. Spring is on its way and shedding season is in. All this hair was not a result of being brushed but just what came off while I worked. Time to pack a lint brush before getting back into the car . Hope youre as excited as I am for the warmer season!!
Thought I would share this article I found. The visual along with the explination is quite well done. Hope you all enjoy.
Had a great time last week meeting this handsome guy. First time working on a Fresian and he was definitely pretty cool. Thanks Shannon and Marc for having me out.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe holiday.

Meet Diego, This was his first time being worked on and he was a superstar. Diego had been in the pasture for the last few months with not much being done on him. Hes mainly a pleasure horse going out to the trails and just plain playing. As you can see in the before photos, he was bent to the right, his right hip is a little higher then the left, and his feet were a little to far underneath himself. Under saddle he was having trouble bending to the right and was...nt quite able to use his bum properly. With this one treatment, we were able to get him to stand square, his back is straighter and a little more full looking and hes no longer standing to far underneath himself. Now that hes been straightened up, the next step is to build some muscles in his bum and building a beautiful top line. Looking forward to seeing a change in this goofy guy!!! See more
The past 4 years have been an up and down rollercoaster and one hell of a journey of self discovery. Starting with 13, we are the final 6 to pull through. As sad as it is to close this chapter of our journey, we go off with confidence with the next step. Thank you Shantel for guiding us through this new life. Congratulations graduating class of 2018, we did it!!
This women does amazing work!! Dont miss out!!

Mane Event is around the corner and well be there!!
Hey! What a beautiful overdue spring day. With this agreeable weather finally peaking through the shadow of winter, Im sure people are starting to shake off th...e cabin fever and thinking about dusting off their saddles, I know I sure am! Lately Ive really been thinking about sheaths. Um, what is that you might say? Or why in the world would Devon be thinking about THAT? Please allow me to give you a brief overview. The sheath is the first and foremost indicator when we quickly check the gender of a horse. It serves as a shelter and protector for the penis. Due to the nature of its job and location, it is perfect for collecting dirt, sweat, urine and shedding skin cells. All this debris is collectively called, "smegma." Over time, smegma builds up and can cause the space within the sheath and around the urethra to lessen, which in turn will cause your horse discomfort. Some horses are more tolerant than others and the rate at which smegma collects varies. It is good practice to be aware of this and do some "housekeeping" for our boys when needed. This is why Im thinking about sheaths. Your horses health and comfort are important to me. If you have a gelding/stallion that you suspect may require being cleaned please dont hesitate to contact someone (including myself) that is knowledgeable. Your horse will thank you for it. I will do a stand alone sheath cleaning, or incorporate it into a treatment. Thank you for reading!
Spring has come, however slowly it creeps. As the ground turns to mud, lets keep an eye on your horses hooves for thrush. Healthy feet go a long way to keeping your horse healthy and happy. Happy hair and mud wearing season!!
