Happy October! Enjoy the feasting and festivities but remember - Eating large amounts of sugar will cause serious harm. Some food facts to remember to keep your sugar intake in check! 1) Sugar can cause hypoglycemia and weight gain = diabetes and obesity... 2) It leaches the body of vital minerals and vitamins 3) It raises blood pressure, triglycerides and bad cholesterol (LDL), increasing the risk of heart disease 4) It causes tooth decay and periodontal disease 5) It makes it difficult for a child's brain to learn. 6) It imitates auto-immune and immune deficiency disorders such as arthritis, allergies and asthma. 7) It upsets hormonal imbalance and supports the growth of cancer cells.

We've now reached the heart of summer when everyone will be tempted to throw off their socks and shoes in exchange for going barefoot. It's a great opportunity to expose your feet to different surfaces that can stimulate pressure sensors and allow each foot its full range of motion. Most of the surfaces we walk on such as concrete, asphalt and wooden floors are unyielding and unforgiving and force the body to absorb all of the shock.... Instead, make an intentional effort this summer to walk, run or stand on surfaces which challenge the muscles, tendons, bones and sensors in your feet. Our feet are excellent at adapting to certain demands such as walking on shifting sand, wading through deep water or climbing up grassy hills. As with all forms of fitness, the more we exercise our feet the stronger and healthier they become. Remember that you are improving the health of your feet when you take that walk on the beach or when you are teaching your children how to swim. Enjoy the rest of your summer everyone!!

Our feet have a big responsibility - supporting and transporting the human body! Here my son rests his feet on a table, waiting for a reflexology treatment that will help the fracture in his ankle heal faster. Remember to take care of your feet! Your entire body depends on them!
