It's Virtual Spirit of Guiding week in BC, and it seems like the perfect time to share that Renfrew District has continued Guiding virtually during this time. Our first district meeting in April had break-out groups for each Guiding level, so that their respective Guiders could get a feel for how all of this was going to work! Since then, some of our units have been meeting weekly, some bi-weekly, incorporating games like scavenger hunts and charades; doing badge work presen...tations so that the girls can continue earning them; having virtual sleepovers; third year Guides doing Lady Baden Powell Award presentations. During one of their meetings, the 49th Vancouver Pathfinders, who usually meet at Grandview Elementary School, worked on the instant meeting "Explore Your Passion" by doing fun, creative activities like an online Passion Wall to discuss everyone's individual passions and how those unique passions can be a huge asset to their communities. The creativity has been inspiring! Tonight, all of this growth culminated in us being able to celebrate our District Commissioner, Emily, who is at the end of her final year as DC, and has spent the past three years expanding and evolving our district so successfully, and leading us through this crazy time! Some of our very resourceful Guiders were able to pull together a slideshow of memories from Emily's time in Guiding (since Sparks!), including some of the wonderful adventures she's had in her time as DC. And, she was presented with her Commissioner's Award! Congratulations, Emily!!!!!! Thank you for everything!! #bcgirlguides #bcggcspiritweek
As we work together to find a way to support all of our Guiding members through the pandemic, some of our girl members have been finding ways to support our frontline workers. The 15th Vancouver Guides had their first virtual meeting last Monday, and they were challenged to create a card to share with either health care workers or seniors. Here is the card Guide Cate and her sister, 15th Vancouver Brownie Zoe, created, and the team of health care staff at St. Paul's who received their lovely creation, along with a case of cookies. : Kyenta Martins
For International Women's Day on March 8th, the 15th Brownies took a trip to the Vancouver IWD event, and got to do lots of hands-on exploration of different tools and exhibits. The hands-down favourites were getting to try on welding helmets, working a pipe fitting station, and getting to use a GIANT wrench! The event was a big hit!!
The world wide Guiding community celebrated World Thinking Day on Saturday, February 22, which was the day upon which both Lord and Lady Baden-Powell celebrated their birthdays. This year, the Pathfinders and Rangers of the 8th Vancouver units planned and led a session for the 8th Sparks and Brownies at Frog Hollow. The girls brainstormed about what World Thinking Day means to them.
Some very, very lucky Veterans will be receiving these gorgeous valentines from the 11th Sparks today! As you can see, they worked very hard on them! #valentinesforvets
