As children and youth exercise their body, they begin to feel their mood being enhanced. There is a dose-response relationship; that is, the more physical activ...ity they do, the more they feel their mood improving. Physical activity can play an important role in the treatment of mental health concerns in children and youth. Today is Rowan’s Law Day in honour of Rowan Stringer. Team captain of her high school rugby team, Rowan was only 17 years old when she died tragically in spring... 2013 from a condition known as second impact syndrome (catastrophic swelling of the brain). This condition occurs when the brain experiences trauma while still recovering from a previous injury. In Rowan’s case, she experienced three head injuries in six days. She was concussed but didn’t know she needed time to heal before she could play again. Neither did her parents, teachers or coaches. Ontario is committed to changing the culture of sport by improving concussion safety, so that what happened to Rowan doesn’t happen again. See what actions we’ve taken: https://www.ontario.ca//ontarios-plan-improving-concussion
