Part of every bathroom renovation is putting solid blocking in the wall. For things like wall hung vanities, towel bars, grab bars, heavy mirrors, shower shelves, and even artwork. Part of that process is documenting WHERE exactly the blocking is. Taking pictures helps when we get to the finishing stage and need to know exactly what is behind the drywall, tiles, etc.

From start to nearly finished in just over 3 weeks. This kitchen had a few of the usual findings in a kitchen renovation... old wiring that was not up to code, moldy drywall behind the kitchen sink, etc. Now, with the help of my guys at High Arc Electric, Iron Eagle Mechanical and Superior Cabinets, this customer has a brand new, modern, safe and properly wired and plumbed kitchen. And, yes, different coloured upper and base cabinets are a popular choice right now!

If space allows, consider adding a ledge in your tub/shower as part of your next bathroom renovation. It's a practical and cost-effective way to add storage for all the bathtime necessities. This customer went with a bright white shiny quartz ledge that matches nicely with the glossy white bathtub.

What a difference a week can make! Here are a few Before & After shots from a recent project. The goal was to create a more spacious kitchen. We removed a 7 ft wall that separated the old kitchen from the breakfast nook. This character home will soon sport a new kitchen with tonnes of WOW factor! Choosing grout colour can feel like a daunting task. That's why I recommend doing a grout sample board. Here we took some leftover tiles and glued them to a board. We tried 4 different grout colours, and you can see that the grout can drastically change the look of the tile. This customer decided on black grout and it really makes the tile "POP". It was a bold choice and looks spectacular in this kitchen.

On occasion, my clients ask me to throw in my "2 cents" on paint colours. Choosing paint colours can be challenging, and rightly so -- there are MANY factors that affect the way paint looks (direct light, reflected light, natural light, temperature of light, colour of surrounding finishes, -- just to name a few!). I snapped this pic on a jobsite awhile back. It illustrates just a couple of these factors. Depending on where you look in this can of paint, there are sever...al different colours that the eye detects. I count SIX in the can and another ONE on the lid beside it on the floor. If you are uncertain whether a particular colour is right for you, I recommend getting a sample-sized can of the colour that you are leaning toward and try it out in your home. It's a great way to "try-before-you-buy". Benjamine Moore sells their test cans for around $10. While $10 might sound like a lot... consider it preventative medicine against a case of buyers remorse. Fantastic example of keeping the parts you like and changing what you don’t... this client wanted to upgrade to a walk-in shower (ditch that slippery old bathtub), add a fold-down shower seat, and have grab bars for safety. We kept the flooring, which was in good shape, and refreshed the original 1980’s honey oak vanity by painting it off-white and upgrading the hardware. Mission accomplished in making this bathroom an all around more modern, safe, and senior-friendly space!
