BACK PAIN Do not let a healthcare practitioner, friend or the internet convince you that your back pain means you have a ‘bad’ back. Our spines are in...credibly resilient and back pain is often associated with factors outside of the spine itself (beliefs, emotions, stress, etc). Unfortunately, many people still believe that having pain means they are injured and are bound to have problems for life. Changing this belief is instrumental. _ This belief is unfortunately perpetuated by many medical, rehabilitation and fitness providers who have yet to study the intricacies of pain science and function from the standpoint that physical pain is completely a result of something being wrong or injured within the tissues of the physical body. _ In most cases, the remedy for low back pain is to simply trust that your back can become less irritable, which will decrease stress, fear and anxiety. Then, find movement/exercise that you enjoy and participate in it regularly. There is a ton of research to support exercise for back pain and no one magic bullet that works for everyone. Your body is: Strong Tough Adaptable Robust... It is capable of amazing feats and just how practice makes perfect, progressive loading leads to tissue resiliency and injury prevention. Progressive is the key word here. Just like everything good in life, too much (and too fast) of loading isn’t necessarily the best thing either. Progressively building on the foundation you have with each training sessions will ultimately lead to success. [P]Rehab = education = smart loading. LETS GIVE A WARM WELCOME TO Ryan Bootsman - Personal Trainer Ryan has a passion to help people create positive change. He knows what it feels like to suffer injury, undergo surgery and fight to recover what was lost; having personally had the REP team help advocate for his own injuries, and then help in his rehabilitation post surgery. This process opened his eyes his lack of awareness and what could have been with some educated guidance. What seemed like a setback for Rya...n was, in fact, a gift. Now he is passionate to help people better understand their own reduced mobility, muscle imbalances and movement patterns. To work with them to create strategies to move well; to move strong and pain free. Ryan is a husband, devoted father of 3 and an athlete. He is an active firefighter with the City of Edmonton and a peer fitness trainer for the Fire Department as well. Education Ryan certified with the American Council on Exercise in 2012, and has continued his ongoing education with Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor level 1, TRX Instructor level 1, and more. Sports Ryan grew up competing in soccer and training in karate. Later he branched into football, rugby, boxing, weight training and eventually varsity rowing. The knee is one of the most common areas of concern as the joint behind our kneecap (patellofemoral joint) commonly makes popping and clicking noises. - It is extremely important that people understand that noises from the knee are usually not associated with pathology and may actually be a sign of a healthy, well-lubricated joint. let’s be careful not to make people feel bad about their knee noise as it can negatively influence how they view their body! - So, if your knees are noisy and you don’t have pain, don’t worry about them.
