Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition 07.11.2020

Excellent local coverage of a hugely ill-conceived proposal to gut the ability of Conservation Authorities to do their job, which is to protect our natural areas, wetlands, features, and waters, from impacts of development.

Premier's Office attacks Conservation Authorities. Conservation Authorities protect water quality, our key natural areas, and protect us from flooding. If imperfect, CAs are VITAL to the recovery of Lake Simcoe. Read our media release: https://drive.google.com//1sf_-5SVKIHpEXuk9Ui6puEs_bL/view... In February Innisfil Council passed this excellent motion, supporting the work of Conservation Authorities. WHO Is the province listening to as they advance plans to gut CAs? Not municipalities! We need your help: Please tell your local Council to say no to MZOs, oppose sprawl-style development and support more protection of natural areas, agricultural ...lands and water sources by bringing these lands into the protection offered by the Greenbelt. Across the Greater Golden Horseshoe developers and land speculators are lobbying local governments to put sprawl-style development on precious natural areas, farmland, and water sources. They’re using the COVID-19 crisis as a smoke screen saying these developments are necessary to get us through the crisis. And they’re convincing local and provincial governments to use an emergency-only tool, Ministerial Zoning Orders (MZOs) to ignore proper planning and environmental protection. And most recently, they’ve convinced the Province to take away the ability of Conservation Authorities to stop bad development. We need to stop them. Local governments must focus on protecting the natural spaces, farmland and precious water sources we deeply depend on. They must stop sprawl and stop requesting the Province to use MZOs. Instead they must protect farmland, natural areas and water sources by adding them to the Greenbelt. Take one minute now to contact your local Council and let them know you want them to stop MZOs, stop Sprawl and grow the Greenbelt! Take Action Now!
