The weeks and now months have flown since the disastrous floods hit southern Alberta, in particular High River and Calgary. After events such as these, the strength of people's physical effort & endurance and human spirit is hard to believe! Homes and businesses are gradually coming back to "normal" and we only hope we never go through anything like that again. As the year winds down, I just want to take a moment to say a sincere thank you to the many clients who have helped ...me make this year one of my best yet! I sometimes feel like a 35-year "overnight success" as I continue to hear from former clients and many new contacts who are excited about the hospitality industry! Your loyalty is much appreciated! It's amazing what hard work and many volunteers can accomplish in a short time. Much of the residential area in High River has been cleaned up and the mountains of debris, furniture, wall-board, appliacances, hot-water tanks etc. etc. have been removed from the streets. So, on the surface things are looking better. However, it's still heart-breaking to visit friends and see lower levels of homes that formerly had beautiful recreation rooms, guest bedrooms, bathrooms and play ...areas totally stripped down to the cement and studs. The human spirit is so resilient and we've heard "it was only stuff" so many times recently. During all this, the wheels of the real estate industry keep turning and the hospitality sector is very busy. Some of the businesses I had listed for sale were flooded, along with the owners personal homes, but they are now recovering and making every effort to get the doors open to the public. I've recently taken 5 new listings and the first two have already been posted on my website - the balance will follow in the next couple of days. Many folks who knew I lived in High River, called with concern and offers of help. They were very much appreciated and I send my thanks to one and all! See more

As you may or may not know, my home and home office is in High River. So, it's been quite a couple of weeks since June 20th when the Highwood River blew its banks and flooded most of the town. It's a sad sight to see with so much destruction. We were finally allowed back in our homes last Saturday and we could not believe our good fortune - even though our house was surrounded by water at the back side, not a drop came in the house. We are so grateful that we avoided the deva...stion but feel guilty at being spared. So, we're doing what we can to help neighbors and friends who weren't so fortunate. We can't give enough praise and thanks to the hundreds of volunteers in the town who helped us through the re-entry process as we stood for 2 1/2 hours in very hot sun. They kept coming along the lines with cold water, fruit and snacks. The community spirit is tremendous and we know we'll come through this disaster with stronger bonds with neighbors and friends. Now that the clean up is in progress, it's hard to count how many volunteers are on the street helping perfect strangers. Beginning today, there are busloads of volunteers coming from Calgary to help out in High River now that a lot of the work of cleaning up has been done in the City. So, thanks to everyone who sent emails, text messages, phone calls and Facebook posts for your support and concern for our well-being. We are so thankful to not have to call on all the offers of help to clean up or move in to your homes - your kindness and thoughtfulness throughout this ordeal will forever be remembered and appreciated!
