TRICK TUESDAY // Rudi Out Pike . Rudi out pike is a valuable skill used by many elite trampoline athletes. It has high scoring potential because you can pike ti...ght, finish the twist early and show a line. But there are many athletes who struggle to master this skill for one reason or another. For me, there were 4 key elements that improved my comfort and confidence with this skill. . 1 Spot before the rudi: A 1& front kicks-out at roughly the same time as the twist of a rudi out. If you can spot a 1& front well, you’ll know when to start twisting. . 2 Build comfort with the blind spot: The twist of a rudi creates a blind spot by turning your head away from the trampoline and twisting fast enough to blur your vision. You must become comfortable with this blind spot by practicing variations of flips with 1& twists. . 3 Spot after the rudi: Once you come out of blind spot you need to re-focus on the bed as soon as possible to confirm your position in the air and prepare for landing. . These 3 elements will give you strong spatial awareness but will create an old school rudi out. The excessive spotting will make it look clunky and segmented in the air. . 4 Repetition: Through constant repetition, this movement pattern will become more comfortable and consistent. At this point you can start phasing out the first spotting moment and initiate the rudi based on feel. This will create a smoother transition from flip to twist and produce a more dynamic looking rudi out. . Want to learn more? I run custom training camps that focus on skill development and spatial awareness. #TRICKTUESDAY // Barani Straight . I often see young athletes perform barani straight by dropping their arms early on the take-off. Chopping the take-off like ...this is usually done to help them generate enough flip. This is not a deduction but it can negatively affect your skill and your score by reducing your ability to lift and control the skill. . As athletes get older and strong, coaches should encourage them to hold their arms overhead up to the first 1/4 flip and use heel drive to generate rotation. This can feel similar to the take-off of a crash-dive (aka 3/4 front). Holding the arms overhead will help athletes keep their chest up and gain height, but the real advantage is the increased level of control. . Straight skills are challenging because they require a very precise amount of rotation. Our body is as long as possible and it’s harder to hide mistakes without taking deductions. If we don’t have enough rotation to complete our flip, we have to get smaller by bending and breaking our straight position. If we have too much rotation, we have to get bigger by bringing our arms up early and breaking our line. Both of these will earn deductions from the judges! . Instead, if we hold our arms up on take-off we can chose when to bring them down into our body based on the amount of rotation we have to work with. There is no deduction for holding the arms up longer on take-off, but you should aim to bring them into your body around 1/4 flip. This can be a great way to hide mistakes and adjust your body size to suit your rotation at the optimal time without taking deductions. If you have too much flip, hold your arms up longer. If you don’t have enough flip, drop your arms sooner. This gives us an added level of control over our barani straight and helps us hide our mistakes from the judges. . Want to learn more? I run custom training camps that focus on skill development and spatial awareness. We are back Classes resume Monday Dec 7.
Unfortunately, our existing program is suspended until Nov 30, 2020. On Nov 30th we will receive directives from the Government of BC how to proceed with our existing competitive program.
It is with great disappointment that due to Covid restrictions the Revelstoke Acrobats will be unable to offer a Preschool or Recreational program for the Fall of 2020 and the Winter of 2021. We hope to open our doors to your little Acrobats again in the Fall of 2021. We thank everyone in the community for the support of our club. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! Thank you, Jill Drake-Head Coach & Revelstoke Acrobats Board
Revelstoke Acrobats would like to acknowledge the new restrictions from Dr. Bonnie Henry announced on Nov 19, 2020. Gymnastics BC has also updated their Return to Sport Plan. We want to reassure our member families that all precautions are being taken at our facility. Please check out our website for our updated COVID Safety Plan. We acknowledge that our programs have been significantly impacted by COVID. To limit the potential interactions between our members and the sc...hool children at BVE, SD19 has limited our access to our facility during school hours. Access to our facility is also limited to only Athletes, Staff and Board Members ("need only"). Therefore, we have not been able to provide any recreational programming or programming for toddlers and parents this season. We have every intention to return to full programming when we are permitted to do so, and we thank our member families both past and present for their continued support and understanding. We trust you are keeping safe, and we will continue to do everything we can to keep our athletes and staff safe. You are invited to email Jill at [email protected] or Jami at [email protected] if you have any questions about our programs and protocols during this time.
