The pianist and singer-songwriter legend Veda Hille. This was her show Little Volcanoes (produced by @theatre_replacement) that combines her music with stories from her life. Veda brings vulnerability, sensitivity and wit to her music and brought that to the shoot as well!

Here’s actor, improviser and photographer Jalen Saip Jalen is like me in that she shares a passion for acting and photography but unlike me, she is really really really funny and has impeccable comic timing. She can make anything funny to the point where I often forgot I should have been taking photos and not be tagging along as a sidekick in her one-woman improv show. I got dangerously close to too much Yes, and and not enough Yes, and stop being funny so much please and... move your chin to the left. We talked about being put in boxes; the boxes society puts us in and the boxes we put ourselves in. In acting - especially for women - it’s easy to become limited to being the funny one, the sexy one, the mysterious one, etc. If you don’t meet all the requirements deemed by society as passable for one box, you have to find another box to put yourself in. You learn to find a box that seems to best fit you and it seems impossible to even try to be anything else. On one hand it’s essentially the headshot photographers job to find the best boxes to put their clients in so they can sell their product but I think it should also be their job to help their clients challenge those boxes somehow, either in the world or in their minds or both. Many people know Jalen for her comedy but don’t really know about her fierceness and vulnerability and her ability to be fierce, vulnerable and really really really funny all at the same time. They should. I know that as a photographer it makes me very picky when choosing other photographers I work with so thanks Jalen for trusting me! @jalensaip HMUA: @glaminvan @ Vancouver, British Columbia
