Mexican food is a favourite for so many. And that tortilla chip, well it's just so versatile! Check out some recipes you can make for #NationalTortillaChipDay: http://ow.ly/8V5M50DHS8s Whichever one you chose, don't drink too many margaritas when cooking! #CookingSafety

Reminder to always charge laptops, tablets and phones on hard surfaces...and check those charging cables too!

With snow on the ground and schools closed for our school friends, it's a perfect day for #NationalPancakeDay! Don't forget the butter, syrup, whipped cream and berries?? And remember to keep an eye on those rounds of golden goodness...unattended cooking is a leading cause of fires!

You might not have even attempted clearing the driveway yet this morning, but when you do please remember to clear the snow around fire hydrants and vents too! Seconds count in a fire...the longer we take to find and dig out hydrants, the more time it takes us to start fighting the fire. #AdoptAHydrant Blocked vents can be a serious carbon monoxide concern! When vents from furnaces, water heaters, and any other fuel-burning appliances are blocked, it can cause deadly CO to build up in your home.

Develop and practise a home fire escape plan with everyone in your family. Once outside, stay outside and call 911 from a cell phone or neighbour's house. Determine who will be responsible for helping anyone who may need assistance. #12DaysofHolidaySafety #FireSafe4TheHolidays

We've all been making adjustments throughout the last few months to overcome challenges and adjust to the 'new norm'. Last week we made another change. Residents will now see us responding wearing our SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) masks to calls other than fire calls. This will allow us to preserve our N95 mask supply. So, if we show up and don't look like you expect us to...don't be alarmed!

Don’t invite the #silentkiller to your silent night celebrations! Protect your family with carbon monoxide alarms. One outside each sleeping area will help keep them safe this holiday season. #12DaysofHolidaySafety #FireSafe4TheHolidays

Modified stage 2 restrictions for #RichmondHill may change your #Halloween plans. If you're going to compensate by going all out with decorations and celebrating at home, remember to be #firesafe!

Thank you to the Ontario Fire College for helping ensure our firefighters have the newest information when responding to Hazardous Materials incidents.

Knowing that equipment is going to work during an emergency is important! Platoon A, Training and Fire Prevention were on site at one of our newest high rises today testing equipment to ensure we can maintain adequate water pressure...even on the top floor. Crews also did a walk through with Fire Inspector Marra to familiarize themselves with the building. Knowing where things are is just as important as knowing if they will work!

If your smoke alarm is older than.it is time to ask Santa for a new one! Test alarms monthly and replace batteries once per year but also make sure it is not more than 10 years old! #12DaysofHolidaySafety #FireSafe4TheHolidays
