I’m happy to announce the award for the Covid-19 Speech Bubble Challenge. The winner is...(imagine a drum roll in your head)... Carmel St John Dyer!!!!! Congratulations to you! Carmel's son Danny will get to choose the recipient of his charitable donation, and Carmel will get a canvas print of her mat, a momento of her participation in this challenge. On behalf of the RHGNL, thank you to all who participated. A very BIG thank you goes to Winnie Glavine, who conceived and executed this challenge. It was a great way to pay tribute to the important people in our communities.

This year RHGNL celebrates 25 years as a Guild. Our Guild was formed in 1995 during a meeting, on Change Islands, of like minded women who wanted to keep the history of rug hooking alive in this province. This meeting, led by Linda Peckford, resulted in the growth of the craft of rug hooking here in this province. Every year since our Guild has held its annual Rug School where participants gather to learn, encourage and socialize with old friends as they make new life long... companions. Even COVID 19 cannot keep this Guild from holding its annual Rug School, though it will certainly be in a different format this year. Three classes will be held this week. August 14/15 in Torbay, Winnie Glavine will teach using Alumimum Window Mesh to make a bowl; August 15/16 Joan Foster will teach Traditional Geometric Mats in Springdale, and August 17/18 Anne Inder will teach Punch Hooking in Grand Falls-Windsor. (a seat or two available still) Next year we hope to gather again in Lewisporte but in the meantime, have a look at what we did last year at our Rug School. Perhaps you'd like to join our Guild. The fee is only $30 per year and we offer wonderful learning opportunities and great experiences for fun. While the mats were hooked by many RHGNL members, the photos are compliments of our own Jackie Alcock, a very talented artist living and working in Corner Brook.
