Step one .... I am not sure how it happened, but our family egg hunt is going to be huge this year! Whether your eggs are all in one basket or scattered everywhere, thoughtful preparation is key to success!
I stepped outside my comfort zone and entered a writing contest... the directive was to create a short fiction piece that included a $20,000 windfall and a small black notebook ... this is my entry! Today is the final day before judging...feeling kinda nervous https://vocal.media/families/walking-mother-home
Most of the time we don’t realize we are creating traditions until they show up in our hindsight. Somewhere along the road our habits take on meaning and emotion and in that moment a tradition is born. This cup showed up in our family when I was in my mid teens. I liked it because it spoke to me of a time and a place that I had never been. Whenever I went home, I chose it for my tea. Many trips home, many choosings, many cups of tea. Now when I go home, my dad quietl...y brings this cup in the morning full of hot chocolate. At lunch time, it shows up brimming with strong tea. It has become a tradition, an unplanned , unspoken agreement between me, my father, and the magpie cup. Now the cup only whispers of that time and place that I have never been. It’s louder voice speaks of decades of tea, of cozy mornings on the stool in my parents kitchen, and of the love and connection I feel from my dad each time he chooses it for me.
Still the mornings can delight and the evenings fresh with stars...
As we hammer down on the final days of 2020, thoughts turn to the year ahead. We can look back on a year that tried us all in unexpected ways and weigh in on changes we want to make for 2021. How did we react? Is our resilience where we want it? Our health? Our finances? What about our hope and our vision for the future?
Getting prepped for the longest night of the longest year!
I am missing our December traditions. Missing my family, parades, markets, and the planning of "Feastival" , our family's pre-Christmas celebration. I know in the future when I look back on this time I will see the silver linings and the abundant blessings. For now though, for today, I am missing the familiar.
I found this little ladybug walking around inside the hall where I clean. I don’t think they can survive on egg salad sandwiches and bingo-dabber ink !?! Turns out they hibernate for 3-9 months. I must say that’s an attractive option this year!
I was away from my page from Canadian Thanksgiving straight through to American Thanksgiving. Why? Well, earlier today I wrote out a long and insightful post explaining exactly what went down and what I was doing about it, but when I went to post it, Facebook glitched and erased the entire thing. Was that a sign? Who knows. I may share more on that in a later post. For now, suffice to say that it’s all been a bit like this day I spent snowblowing ... hard work, un-glamorous, a little crazy looking, but absolutely necessary if I want to keep moving forward (and especially if I wish to continue to share with other common people, the tools to reach uncommon success. )
May we fill our hearts with gratitude for the blessings in our lives. Wishing each of you a reflective and joy filled Thanksgiving weekend !
Today is a work from home day! My favourite kind of work day
Sunday funnies ...
I love fall! The colours, the smells, the harvest...and the awareness that it’s time to get things in order for the cycle that’s coming. I can’t say winter is my favourite, but there is something delicious about pulling back and heading inward after the rush and tumble of spring summer and fall all mad on each other’s heels. Sigh. Soon...but not now. Now is the time for autumn things.
