Rhondda's Helping Hands 29.09.2020

I’m a Queer mom who struggled to ask for postpartum mental health support because I was scared that I would confirm the homophobic notion that queer folks shoul...dn’t parent; I was scared that, even if I did reach out, the people on the other end wouldn’t understand my family. I cannot tell you how exited I am to announce that Pacific Post Partum Support Society is launching a Two-Spirit, Queer + Trans Postpartum Support Group! If you or someone you know is 2SLGBTQIA+ and experiencing perinatal mental health challenges, please see the poster for details.

In a recent prenatal we were discussing sources of protein other than meat. This morning I had a chiropractor appointment and Dr.Mar has this poster in his office! Lovely!

We were thrilled to be chosen as your doula. We cried with you at the news. We held your hand while you labored. We were honored to be one of the few who met your baby. It’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. We remember.

*sharing with enthusiastic permission * Also editing to add that of course this is what unconditional support and love means in the hospital as well. We just ha...ppened to be in a home when this was taken. This is what doula support looks like in the wee hours of morning in your own home. Where you feel most comfortable and safe. Where your toddler is sleeping and partner is getting much needed rest as well. This moment was stealthily captured by the amazing midwife Nicole of South Shore Home Birth Midwifery as we both kept watch and held space for this magnificent person. This moment was 30-60 seconds of rest in between strong surges, and anyone knows that when one contraction goes away, you let go and rest in between. And that’s what’s happening here. Doulas will hold you in their hearts, hold your hands, and your throw up basin. It’s just what we do[la].

The transition to motherhood can often be alot more difficult than you expect. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it and remember, that you are always welcome to contact PANDSI if you have any questions or just need a chat.

This info graphic describes the range of emotions so well. If your emotions are falling more on the right side of the chart- it’s time to reach out for help. Because it doesn’t have to feel like this... and it’s not your fault.
