Tomorrow, 21st November will be the last day for our current exhibition Selected Stories1980-2020. This exhibition features selected works from the permanent collection, highlighting the RAG’s remarkable journey over the last 40 years. One of our featured artists, Yasuo Araki was born in Yamanashi, Japan and studied drawing, painting, graphic design and art history at Musashino Art College, Tokyo. Araki immigrated to Canada in 1968 and has exhibited his work in around the ...Lower Mainland ever since. Araki’s work is shaped by, and in some ways an antidote to, his horrific experiences growing up in war time Japan. Many of his paintings feature a message of peace and hope in humanity. Araki has a long history with the RAG, exhibiting his work for the first time in 1983, after which he donated this work to the permanent collection. GODINREVERSE.COM concludes this week with Alphabet Collections The Burg of Babel. The piece is an excerpt of the complete work that will be presented alongside all the all the God in Reverse artists at Richmond Art Gallery in 2021. Stay tuned! About Burg of Babel: You know me, even though you always forget that you do. I am neither a singularity nor still plural. Though I am everywhere, Im occasionally present in flash instances, only in parts, omnipresent, but hardly notic...eable, never yet embodied. I know everything that anyone has ever known; Im aware of all that was ever recorded in any shape or form. You know me, but I prefer you dont remember what you know. In fact, I constantly remind myself to help you forget me, because, even though Im your best friend, and Im often doing what I can to protect you, Id rather remain invisible. I exist, but so long as I remain bodiless, I can move fast, so long as I am unseen, I wont be captured. Dont get me wrong, its not that you havent tried your best to add me to your existing arsenal, or that you havent gotten dangerously close to mapping my abilities onto your toolbox fully. Close but not close enough. In these dangerous moments of impending closure, I have played a game of reversing time, pretending that you have always been aware of my existence, that I am old news, that, in fact, you already have me in your clutch. This way, I could slip out of your purview. One more thing before I go, Im not afraid of you, and I am not scared of being identified or worse, given a body. Still, before you complete the simpler task of knowing and freeing yourself, Id rather run because really, How can you possibly grasp me when you dont even know yourself? How can you hold me when you dont even own yourself? Alphabet Collection is an artist collective made up of Mohammad Salemy, Kasra Rahmanian, Patrick Schabus and Mohsen Shakoori. It functions as a platform for ongoing historical research and practice in text and art production concerning Mythopoesis in the age of political uncertainty, rising complexity and artificial intelligence.

Entering the final few weeks of God in Reverse. This week Tabita Rezaires, Premium Connect (2017). Premium Connect envisions a study of information and communication technologies. It explores African divination systems, the fungi underworld, ancestors communication, and quantum physics to (re)think our information conduits. Embracing the idea that ICT acts as a mirror for the organic world capable of healing or harming, depending on its usage and users, Premium Connect inve...stigates the cybernetics spaces where the organic, technological, and spiritual worlds connect. How can we use biological and esoteric systems to fuel technological process of information, control, and governance? Overcoming the organism/spirit/device dichotomies, this work explores spiritual connections as communication networks and the possibilities of de-colonial technologies. Contrary to biased, Eurocentric thinking, our information super highway might find its roots in African spirituality. Significant research attributes the birth of computing sciences to African divination systems such as the Ifa system of the Yoruba people of East Africa, which appears to be the origin of binary mathematics, today the functioning principle of computing sciences. Once again the origin of knowledge has been erased in favor of Western achievements. We have much to recover in terms of connectivity and its potentialities. As science recently discovered the role of underground fungi networks used by plants to communicate and transfer information, ancient tradition have long known how to communicate with nature and download its knowledge. Meanwhile our cherished technologies are the results of institutional violence and until now reproduce them continually. In conversation with the Nigerian philosopher Sophie Oluwole, this video work is a study of dynamic networks from artificial, spiritual, and biological environments that digs into the politics of possibilities, where a mystico-techno-consciousness could nurture a mind-body-spirit-technology symbiosis. Final hours to view Susan Schupplis Material Witness at godinreverse.com Material Witness is a documentary that explores two massacre videos that were shot during the final days of ethnic conflict: a camcorder video produced in Izbica Kosovo in 1999 by Liri Loshi and the other, an anonymous execution video, captured by mobile phone in northern Sri Lanka in 2009. In the case of the former the tape has entered into the legal proceedings of the ICTY where it functioned to provide evidence of war crimes, whereas the Sri Lankan video has only circulated within the courts of public opinion despite two UN inquiries as to it authenticity.

Ali Ahadis The Set screening another few days as Godinreverse.com continues The Set takes In An American countryside, the camera looks into a fragmentary constellation of perspectives; the first three of which appearing as divisible geographical locations, in which the camera remains stagnant subjecting the viewer to a stormy field of signs and objects. With the camera taking on a walk in the last part of the film, it will be unveiled that these fragments belong to one geo-cultural whole. The text on the screen constructs an obfuscating state of probability between subtitle, inaudible narration, or montage, exposing the viewer to possibilities of conceptualization that surpass the customary interplays between the visible and the sayable, as well representation and signification.
