Environmentalists and art-lovers alike are invited to meet Rachel Rozanski, the sixth annual Branscombe House Artist-in-Residence at this virtual event. Rozanski will describe her creative practice and plans for her upcoming residency, which will include an exploration of Richmond's islands by water. The artist will examine the evolution of these landforms, reshaped many times over, including the unique ecosystems that now exist on them. So, TDI is working with UBC to increase our understanding of the early experiences, needs, and barriers faced by families with young children living in Richmond. Each work approaches the body as a negotiation, both a site of giving and receiving: with other bodies, external forces, and with the self. Presented as part of Richmond Pride, the screening is offered as a meditation on queer intimacy and resistance. Congratulations to artist Rotem Levy, 2020 recipient of the Richmond Arts Awards' Youth Arts category. The Youth Arts award recognizes a performing, literary or visual artist, 24 years of age or younger, who has demonstrated outstanding promise and commitment to the Richmond arts community. Professional artists of all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for an 11-month live-in residency at Branscombe House -- beginning mid-January 2021 until mid-December 2021. The City is seeking applicants who are interested in developing new projects and programs that promote meaningful community engagement through artistic opportunities. Branscombe House is a beautifully restored Edwardian style house located in the residential area of historic Steveston in Richmond.... The self-contained two-bedroom suite upstairs is offered as an artist residence/studio with rent 100% subsidized in exchange for contributing approximately 240 hours of community-engaged work on approved creative projects/programs developed in collaboration between staff, artist(s) and community groups/organizations. The Summer Youth Program is a 3-week online and outdoor course for youth ages 15-18, taking place from July 29 -August 14, 2020.
