The need for emergency response to COVID-19 is significant. In communities across Canada, the demand for the ECSF activated through Community Foundations of Canada is exceeding the funds available. Charities and non-profit organizations have been leading the charge to assist those who need it most in the fight against COVID-19. We are inspired by your work and dedication. Unfortunately, we are able to fund only a small portion of the many projects that applied, given the to...tal funds available. CFC is one of three partners activating the Emergency Community Support Fund. CFC, in partnership with 177 community foundations, is flowing a modest portion of the total $350M Fund to support the over 85,000 registered charities in Canada.

Richmond Community Foundation sees increase in grant requests during pandemic Valerie Leung / Richmond News July 20, 2020 12:35 PM... This has probably been one of the largest amount of requests for grants in the 27 years history of the foundation. Ed Gavsie, executive director of the Richmond Community Foundation (RCF), said it has been hectic for the organization, with grant requests pouring in as they try to do their best to help everyone possible. It was a relief that the federal government allocated support funds to community foundations across Canada, said Gavsie. They wanted every region and no part in Canada that wouldn’t be eligible at least to get money. In May, the Government of Canada invested $350 million as part of the Emergency Community Support Fund to improve the ability of community organizations to help support vulnerable Canadians during the pandemic. Of the $350 million, RCF received $363,000 to help local organizations and non-profits in Richmond. Gavsie told the Richmond News that the federal support allowed the foundation to provide grants to 14 different organizations. We received a total of 32 applications for more than $1.1 million in requests, but we can only grant what was given or what our allocation was, said Gavsie, adding that the grants were only given to organizations with requests in regards to COVID-19. We are now working with the Vancouver Foundation to get some more money Kevin McCort, president and CEO of the Vancouver Foundation, said his organization has also been over-subscribed with COVID-related requests. We have experienced a high demand from many organizations where every community has been asking for more during this time, said McCort, adding that they had to close applications to their community response fund because the demand exceeded what they had. The Vancouver Foundation, said McCort, is looking to raise more money and have a second round of funding. https://www.richmond-news.com//richmond-community-foundati

Helping Our Community Recover from COVID-19 In May, the Richmond Community Foundation partnered with Community Foundations of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada to launch the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF), a new granting stream created to assist local non-profit organizations as they respond to COVID-19. We formed a special ECSF grant committee, which, throughout June, reviewed nearly 30 applications. By the end of the month, our entire funding allo...tment had been distributed - over $363,000 in all! The Richmond Food Bank received $22,000 to deliver food hampers to homebound residents. Pathways Clubhouse was granted $11,212 to enhance the accessibility of its virtual meetings and support services. And the Regional Animal Protection Society was awarded $50,000, which it will use to offer free or low-cost veterinary services, and a pet food bank, to pet owners experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic. This grant is particularly timely, as COVID-19 has forced RAPS to cancel many of its fundraising events, leading to a substantial loss in revenue. These ECSF projects, and many others, will be featured in detail on the Community Foundation's newly re-launched Facebook page. Follow along for a regular dose of feel-good content throughout the summer!
