Happy Family Day (today) and Valentine's Day (which was yesterday)! Both of these days are synonymous with love, which is the theme of our meeting tomorrow. As cliché as it may sound, love is an incredibly powerful force. As Jimi Hendrix famously put it, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." In what ways have you showed love for others? How about the ways that others have showed love for you? No matter who it may be, people who show love make the world a better place. A slightly late post, but last Tuesday, two of our Toastmasters Teresa Lau (President and VP Membership) and Allen Tang (Sergeant at Arms) represented Richmond Friendly at the Area 41 speech contest. Allen achieved third place in both the evaluation and international contests. Teresa placed second in the international contest and will be representing Richmond Friendly at the upcoming Division E competition! Today was our 2021 Club Speech Contest, which featured Teresa Lau (President and VP Membership), Allen Tang (Sergeant at Arms), and Sharon Xu as our contestants! We're happy to announce that all of them will be going on to represent Richmond Friendly at the Area 41 contest, which will be taking place next Tuesday (Feb 9). Allen, as a first-time competitor, placed first in both the evaluation and international speech contests! It's that time of year again! This coming Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. will be our club contest, so come out and support our contestants! Here are photos from last year's club contest, where our very own president and VP Membership, Teresa Lau, was the international speech champion. It was her first time competing, but she went on to win the Area 41 international contest, earning her a spot at the division level! It's contest season! This year, we'll be holding our club contest on Feb 2! In light of this, our theme for the coming meeting (Jan 26) will be contests! At Toastmasters, speech competitions are an excellent way to test your skills and learn ways to improve. The same goes with all other contests outside.
