Let’s talk about winter mobility. With February coming up, the coldest and iciest month, we would like to tell you about the options we have for staying active outside during the winter and to stay as safe as possible. If you or a loved one has trouble getting around in the wintertime, here are some possible products and solutions to help make that trek into the cold a little easier. Ice Cleats: These provide stability and balance in icy and wet winter conditions. Ice picks ...dig into the snow and ice providing a grip and preventing falls. These rubber cleats stretch around your existing footwear for a snug fit and are easy to put on and off. Ice Picks: For someone with arthritis or limited hand dexterity who may not be able to apply an ice cleat, ice picks for canes are a great option to provide stability in the snowy and icy surfaces to improve safety and reduce falls. Easy installation onto your cane tip can be done at the store. These also come with an easy flip-up design so you can still use your cane indoors without taking the ice pick off completely. We have been actively monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19 and have taken the appropriate steps to ensure that we can preserve the health and well-being of our staff and our customers. We are reducing our hours starting MONDAY, MARCH 23rd. We will now be open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sunday from... 10am to 5pm. 2. We would like to dedicate the first 2 hours we are open (from 9am to 11am) for those members of our community who are of higher risk so that they are able to pick up their medications and essential items first thing in the morning. We ask that our other customers respect this time and give the immuno-compromised, elderly, or high-risk customers a chance to shop without the general public in the store. 3. If you have been out of the country or are experiencing any symptoms of fever, cough, or shortness of breath, please arrange for someone else to pick up your medications. If you are unable to arrange for this, we also offer FREE in town delivery, or a pharmacy staff member can meet you in the parking lot to deliver your medications * Please note, all deliveries and drop offs require payment in advance as our delivery drivers are not accepting cash. If you request delivery, the pharmacy staff will ask you for a credit card number to process the payment for your medications 4. We have increased our cleaning and sanitation measures at our store 5. We are discouraging the use of cash, but we encourage you to use debit or credit tap to pay for your transactions 6. March is Pharmacist Awareness Month! Here's a familiar face! This is Karim. Karim graduated from De Montfort University in the United Kingdom in 2009 with his Masters in Pharmacy. He has taken a keen interest in pharmaceutical compounding and with such, has grown our compounding labs and our business at both our Stittsville and Greenbank Huntclub locations. He especially enjoys using compounding to provide services and treatments in the realm of sports medicine. You may have also seen him recently on CTV Morning Live, as he has a recurring guest spot as a pharmacist to provide advice and education on various subjects! An update from Ottawa Public Health: "Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is taking proactive measures in the COVID-19 response by partnering with The Ottawa Hospital and CHEO to open a COVID-19 Assessment Centre. The arena will be used exclusively for the purpose of COVID-19 assessments and testing. The first COVID-19 Assessment Centre opens today at noon at the Brewer Arena, located at 151 Brewer Way. The facility will be open from 9 am to 8 pm, daily. Additional COVID-19 Assessment... Centres may open later as needed. The centre will be operated in collaboration with The Ottawa Hospital and CHEO serving the larger public health needs of Ottawa. It will provide assessment and testing for children and adults. The Assessment Centre is for individuals who have: 1. Returned from international travel AND are displaying symptoms associated with COVID-19, including: fever and/or new or worsening cough OR 2. Had contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 14 days AND are displaying symptoms associated with COVID-19, including: fever and/or new or worsening cough Do not bring well children or other healthy members of the community (e.g. friends, neighbours, drivers) into the Assessment Centre. All City of Ottawa community-based and recreational activities are redirected from Brewer Arena to other locations. The only residents using the arena will be those seeking assessments. This will ensure there is no cross-contact between facility users and those who are requesting assessments. There is no risk to the surrounding community.
