On behalf of the Richmond RFC, Happy Lunar New Years to all of our players, coaches, management and staff along with fans, friends and families! To celebrate, the #RRFC would like to share a candid shot of our very own lucky Ox! !
Based on ViaSport's announcement this week that youth sports would remain under Phase 2 guidelines, the club has made the decision to restart its 12 week Mini & Junior rugby programs on Thursday February 25th. Practices will consist of individual skills and drills (with some fitness thrown in as well) until we progress into Phase 3. The sessions will be capped at 10 player spots per cohort, so sign-up ASAP here: rugbycanada.sportlomo.com
A great initiative put together by Bayside/Earl Marriot/Advantage Rugby Centre/Canada Age Grade coach Adam Roberts (Photo Credit: @adamcdroberts) If you are interested in post-secondary rugby this is a must-see presentation!
Our current sponsors Russell Beer give us a great deal, but this week's #tbt is a steal! This comes from the desk of #RRFC club treasurer Jack Hamilton, from the archives (Oct. 1975): 1200 beers delivered to the old clubhouse for a whopping $281!
Happy birthday to long time #RRFC speedster Josh Pillsbury!
The RRFC continues to follow BC Rugby and ViaSport guidelines for return to play. The current public health order expires on Feb 5th, and the club has tentatively scheduled the resumption of mini rugby training to begin Feb 11th at King George Park (5:30PM-6:30PM). When more details are available, we will update our membership. Until then, let's work together: wear a mask, wash your hands and we will see you in February!
January's first Alumni of the Month is former #RRFC club captain, @ubcmrugby workhorse and newly minted father: Blair Knowles. Thanks for supporting local youth rugby! Despite the fact that post-touch beers + hugging your pals + mask-less group shots have been discontinued, tonight's #RRFC touch session is still a go: 7PM at KGP! See you there!

In accordance with the ViaSport (https://tinyurl.com/y3vb9xbn) and BC Rugby (https://tinyurl.com/y5bb7nr4) messaging on the most recent BC Health Minister's recommendations, the club will continue to provide outdoor rugby opportunities for all athletes. The decision at the mini level has been to minimize touch/flag for the time being, and continue working on skills. Senior touch and Senior women's training will continue with some changes to the entrance points at KGP (as well as the addition of another Senior check-in desk).
As we reach the mid-way point of the touch season, why not gear up for the potential return to contact rugby by watching some of our videos from the past on our club's Youtube channel. Here's one of Anthony Hazelman scoring against Abbotsford last season! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UJ9K1ME14U
All #RRFC sessions at KGP are a go this evening - 5:30PM for the minis, 7:00PM for touch, 7:15 for Senior Women's training. See you there!

Oh..and make sure you wash or disinfect your hands after each session!
Rugby fans, The RRFC needs you! With COVID restrictions in full effect, contact rugby has been put on hold until the New Year. We are looking to boost our registered member base to show the city of Richmond that the club is continuing to grow and here is how you can help: - If you have a young person in your life who wants to try rugby, we are offering programs for minis (5-12) and juniors (13-17) on Thursdays at King George Park from 5:30PM-6:30PM. Cost is $100 for the half.... All of our club coaches are certified with BC Rugby and have undergone COVID training. Sessions will feature a good mix of fitness, skills and game play (but no tackling...) - If you had to retire because of an injury or other time commitments or you're thinking of making a comeback and want to ease yourself back into rugby, the club is running touch rugby on Thursday nights at KGP from 7PM onward. For these events, in accordance with BC Rugby and Via Sport guidelines, you MUST BE REGISTERED. The reason for this provincial rule is that the club has to submit a list of who participated in each session to help with any contact tracing. It also ensures that you are insured in the case of an injury. Cost for the half is $50. If enough players register, we will be offering Tuesday nights as well - so it breaks down to about $2 a session. First 25 senior members registered get a free bumper sticker. - If your playing days are over but you still want to support the club - we have re-instituted our Social Memberships. These cost $50 and 100% of the money goes directly into the James Thompson Memorial Fund which helps the club purchase Junior rugby equipment as well as provide scholarships for younger players making the jump into university. Anyone signing up for this membership will receive a game worn jersey from the club's 2009 2nd division championship win over Seattle. - If you or your business would like to become a sponsor - please reach out to our Vice President Jon Malchy. The club will have some more news about sponsorship opportunities in the coming weeks as well as a list of volunteer opportunities if you're looking to give back to the local rugby community. If you have any questions comments or concerns please do not hesitate to reach-out any time to me at [email protected] or 604-719-6046. Here is the link to register: https://reg.sportlomo.com/rugbycanada
Sadly, we will have to wait to get our first session of the season in! All training sessions this evening are cancelled because of the hazardous air conditions. Senior touch rugby will commence Tuesday Sep 22 and Mini/Junior/Senior training will begin Thursday Sep 24th. You must be registered to participate: https://reg.sportlomo.com/rugbycanada
For those of you on our mailing list, an e-mail went out last night re: this upcoming season. If you're not on the mailing list, it can be viewed here: https://mailchi.mp/f62a70/richmond-rugbys-official-re-start The club will be providing ample opportunities for players of all ages to work on their skills and fitness this Fall. If you, your friends or family members have kids between the ages of 5 and 17 please let them know that the club will be re-starting junior and mini ...rugby ASAP. It is important we get people registered and signed up with the club in anticipation of the return to full rugby, and so that training and touch can be administered safely. Once the club has more information about registration it will be post on social media or on the RRFC website. Until then, clear you schedules, and get ready to get back into the swing of things starting Sep 17th! See more
