Rideau River Tarot 16.12.2020

Today’s #tarotcard for the #28daylockdowntarotproject is the Nine of Wands. At first I thought it an odd card for only day 3 of a 28 day lockdown, as it usually means you are nearing the end of the cycle, battered and bruised but still on your feet. But since it is Dec 28 we are definitely nearing the end of 2020, if not this particular lockdown. So I’ll read this card as advice to look back at the choices I’ve made to get here - were they the right ones? We’ve made it through, but at what cost? And most importantly, what lessons can I bring with me into the next cycle so I don’t have to take such a beating the next time around? #learntarot #dailytarot #tarotreadersofinstagram #tarot #ottawatarot

For day two of our 28 day pandemic lockdown, I drew a card early to set my intention for the day and pulled the Knight of Coins. A steadfast worker, this Knight isn’t afraid of hard work and takes pleasure in a job done well. He is telling me that the road ahead is difficult but not insurmountable, and that my focus should be on patience and diligence. #28daylockdowntarotproject #learntarot #ottawatarot #tarotreadersofinstagram #knightofpentacles #knightofcoins #tarotofthedivine #dailytarot

My tarot cards never fail to amuse me, because they never fail to call me out. We started a 28 day pandemic lockdown today, so I thought I’d turn it into a mini-project: a card a day for each day of the lockdown. Let’s call it the #28daylockdowntarotproject. Of course my first draw is the Eight of Swords - is there a more appropriate card for a 28 day lockdown? Trapped for sure, but those swords - am I making it worse than it really is? We’re safe and healthy in our bubble. I’d better take that blindfold off so I can see where the real peril is. Meanwhile, I’ll rely on my instincts and follow the water to feel my way forward. Ain't this the truth! You might have noticed I've come back from hiatus and am posting content again. I've got a fun new set of posts starting tomorrow that you'll enjoy if you're a fan of tarot cards or Doctor Who. If you're a fan of both, like me, I think you'll love it!

This is a fun concept for a deck - I love it! And, unlike a lot of Kickstarters and indie decks, you can pre-order this one via Indigo or Amazon. https://www.themarysue.com/the-women-of-science-tarot-deck/

On today’s stop in the journey through #22DoctorWhoTarotQuotes, the major arcana as framed by quotes from Doctor Who, we’ve reached the Emperor. a card of authority, of order, of leadership and structure. Did you know that we’re in the waning days of an Emperor year? It may have seemed a chaotic one, but think of the conflict around exertion of control through the rules and lockdowns put in place by governments, and (at least here in Canada) how the government has stepped in ...to protect those most at risk. It has been a year exemplified by the struggle for societal order to contain the perils of the natural world in this case, the spreading virus. My quote for the Emperor was uttered by two Doctors, and echoed by a third. In the 50th anniversary special, David Tennant’s 10th Doctor responds to Clara’s question about his name being a promise: Never cruel or cowardly. The War Doctor adds, Never give up. Never give in. And then, several seasons later, the Twelfth Doctor echos the sentiment in the farewell speech I quoted last week: Never be cruel, never be cowardly, and never ever eat pears! In a lot of ways, the Doctor is like the Emperor. A natural and powerful leader, he encourages you, like the Emperor, to stand up for what is right, to assert leadership and respect order (as it applies to timelines, at least.) He is a defender to those without power, asking loyalty in return. Of course, the Doctor has a wildly chaotic side the Emperor would not condone stealing a TARDIS for a joyride that lasts for millennia. And the later Doctors, in particular Twelve and Thirteen, have stepped away from the bombastic universe-leading president-of-the-world style to a more quiet, behind-the-scenes enabler, so the humans (and others) can save themselves with the Doctor’s benevolent mentoring. But that, too, is a powerful form of leadership. I'd love to know what you think - do you agree that this quote exemplifies the qualities of the Emperor? (See my blog -link in bio - for a Gallifreyan font version of the title quote.) #tarot #learntarot #doctorwho #doctorwhoquotes #22doctorwhotarotquotes #majorarcana #theemperor #tarotreadersofinstagram #tarottribe

I'm thinking about the Wheel of Fortune today. At the risk of calling down the gods, I have been in a good place recently. A lot of little things have happened to make me very happy, and I feel safe and loved, and the people I care about are well. I am extremely grateful for these things, even as I remember that I'm only one turn of the wheel from a different perspective. The great wheel turns and turns and turns. One day, you're cresting the top and you can see all the beaut...y of the land as far as the eye can see. You're lighter than air, floating, and giddy. And then turn, turn, turn, you're in free-fall. And then you're down at the bottom, small and constricted, and feeling like the entire weight of the great wheel is upon you, crushing out hope. And then, turn, turn, turn, it drags you back out from under again, and you regain your footing, and up, up, up you go. I used to think I was an incorrigible optimist, but now I think I've just gained enough perspective (and led a charmed enough life) to realize that even when it feels like the universe is trying to crush the last breath out of you, you just need to hang on a little longer, and the great wheel will set itself in motion again. For now, even as I count my blessings at the top of the wheel, I'm aware that the downswing will come again, but I'll hold on and remember the view from the top of the world. I named my tarot project Rideau River Tarot for a few reasons, not least of which we live on a small island in the middle of the Rideau River and I see it almost every day. I love this River, but I never loved it like I did since I got a kayak earlier this spring. Every time I paddle, I think about the power of water, always in motion and often still. This is my muse and my inspiration, and every minute on the water makes me happy. What’s your happy place? #manotick #watsonsmill #rideauriver #kayaking

At more than 800 pages, this might not be my favourite tarot book but it's definitely my biggest one! New this week on my website, a review of Benebell Wen's massive tome, Holistic Tarot. http://danigirl.ca/tarot//06/03/book-review-holistic-tarot/
