Congratulations, you've acquired your new home in Prince Edward County! Now, what do we do? Does the house need a makeover? Is the landscape in need of some love? Who does this kind of work and what is the timeline for getting things done?... What are some unique features of where my house is situated; does my well flow year round or is flooding a problem in this neighbourhood? How do the cycles of the seasons affect my property? I can manage these questions and projects for new comers, and expanding local investors. Managing renovations, tradespeople and presenting realistic timelines at the local level. I will cover all aspects of ownership required by absentee property owners on a single project basis, and with year round care. Contact me at [email protected]. Or by phone at 613 920-0111. Enjoy this Spring! David Riley

The New Year is a good time to check the expiration dates on your smoke detectors. There will be a recommended replacement year on the edge of the smokie. If you note the model number and brand, it is easy to replace them. I recommend the combo smoke and carbon monoxide units. At minimum, replace the battery. I inspect smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and alarm systems on a regular bases. It is good to document these procedures in case an event should ever occur.

I am making the early morning rounds to check on the heating situation at my vacant properties. It is -18 currently, and the window for repairing a no-heat situation is short when the days aren't warming up. In extreme weather situations such as, freezing temperatures, it is a good idea to increase the heat in an empty house, just in case the furnace fails. The window for repairs or, resetting of the furnace, increase greatly. If your furnace has mysteriously stopped working..., try resetting it by turning the power switch off for 5 minutes. Then turn it back on and, this is all it may take to revive. Of course, read your manual, change your filter often, make sure the exhaust vent is clear from snow and check the carbon monoxide detector in your house. I make scheduled trips to check on homes and can help you when you are away. David Riley 613 920-0111 [email protected]
