HEARTBURN during PREGNANCY Heartburn can feel extremely overwhelming when you’re pregnant. It can sometimes become impossible to get any relief, preventing sleep, creating nausea and food aversion. In a time where your health feels so important this can be extremely stressful. During pregnancy the uterus starts growing quickly. This pushes your abdominal organs up toward your diaphragm. When there is dysfunction with the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes, it ca...n exasperate the feeling. Moreover, as you grow your tspine gets put under stress as the body adapts. This can also increase the symptoms, as it is the site of innvervation for the stomach and esophagus. Your osteo will look at all the different anatomical structures that can increase the symptoms of heartburn. Mostly trying to free up anything pushing on your diaphragm and stomach. We will get them moving so that the body can function better and decrease or remove the symptoms experiences. DM me for any more information. #osteopathy #pregnancy #heartburn See more

Did a fun thing last week! Got to sit down and talk with my awesome co-workers and mentors @kevin_vitality @jason_vitality @drseanlandry . We talked about the importance of knowing what type of niche market will be fulfilling to work with and how that can boost your practice. To all the osteos out there who are just starting or vets who may be struggling to maintain a solid clientele I highly highly recommend listening to @osteoconnection every week. Even if you’re not strugg...ling, it’s always great to keep learning and evolving. These guys have a lot of knowledge to share on building your practice and forming lasting relationships. It’s an easy listen and you’ll get a good idea on what your work environment should feel like. At @vitalitytherapy we love coming to work, we laugh every day and rly support each other. I feel very lucky to be part of this team! GO LISTEN #osteopathy #womenshealth #vitalitymultitherapyclinic #business #modernwoman #educate #empower #osteoconmection #mentorship See more

Upper Back and Neck Tension Since the start of the pandemic I’ve seen a lot of people suffering from upper back and neck tension. WFH has become the norm and a lot of people don’t quite have the ergonomic setup they did at the office. Also, zoom meetings tend to mean more time at your desk and more screen time. Add a little bit of stress to the mix and your upper back and neck can start to suffer. Here is a quick stretching routine you can do from your chair thr...oughout the day. This will help release your traps, SCMs, scalenes and help open up your thoracic cage and tspine. If you experience any pain during your stretch, eliminate it from your routine. I’d recommend trying to do them 3x/ day #WFH #WFHstretches #osteopathy #stretches #neckpain #necktension #upperbackpain #backpain #stretching #stretching

Regurgitation & Spitting up A common reason parents will bring their baby in to see me for is spitting up. Not only is this hard on the baby’s and parents wardrobe it can also create a cascade of other issues. Newborns react most to tiredness, hunger and discomfort. When a baby is chronically spitting up, they can be feeling all of those things potentially leading to some colic. The baby can feel tired a lot of the time from eating a lot more to make up for what been spat ...up. They can feel hungry because their feed isn’t staying down. Also regurgitation can create irritation and discomfort along their upper GI, like the stomach and esophagus. Some babies will start working really hard to eat and maybe a shorter supply which can lead to swallowing air which can lead to more digestive discomfort. All of these issues can be really hard on already tired parents. More feeding, more washing, more soothing and less sleep. There is a lot an osteopath can do to help with this. When babies are born, their posture is mostly in flexion. As they grow and open up the anterior aspect of their bodies, we will make sure that important structures are keeping up with this change. You can see this discrepancy displayed with spitting up increasing when the Baby is on their stomach. We’ll look at their esophagus and diaphragm and make sure they’re moving. The esophagus pierces the diaphragm, if it’s not mobile it can be putting undue tension on the stomach and esophagus encouraging spitting up. We will also look at thoracic cage and cervical spine for the innervation and fascia continuities affecting this part of digestion. Just to made a few! Please DM me with any questions about this :) #osteopathy #pediatricosteopathy #osteoforbabies #osteopathyforbabies #spitup #regurgitation #newbornissues #pediatrics #physicaltherapy #manualtherapy See more

LOW BACK STRETCH Forget spring cleaning and New Years resolutions. If you’re anything like me, the fall always feels like a perfect time to reset. After the whirlwind that is summer, it’s nice to finally slow down and have the time to take everything in. By the end of summer I usually feel pretty drained and the change of season is welcomed. I finally shake the chronic FOMO on every second of the beautiful weather. I find myself gravitating back to stimulating reads or li...stens, to cooking nutritious foods, to a strong workout routine, to meditation, to lots of sleep...self care . I’ve never really planned this shift but it’s a pattern I’ve noticed. I think the adrenaline rush that is summer can sometimes move us away from living intuitively. When fall comes, we naturally fall back into practices that lift us up in areas that we may need it. That’s life! Moving through ups/downs, waves, yin/yang. Every phase should be enjoyed. It is interesting to see the way seasons can sometimes help us find balance & homeostasis. How do the seasons affect you? One of my intentions going into this fall is to start taking better care of my tissue through stretching . I’ve always been a lazy stretcher so my goal is to get them done while I’m on the couch . Here are a few stretches I’ve been doing to help with low back pain or prevention of low back pain. If anyone wants to join in on fall stretching plz do! All stretches should be done for a minute on both sides. Breath deeply while you do them. If ever you experience pain stop doing that stretch. #osteopathy #lowback #lowbackpain #lowbackstretches #seasons #summer #fall #stretch See more
