Rise Strength Lab 05.05.2022

The best results are driven by being consistent and by progressive overload. When it comes to building muscle, gaining strength, losing fat, or becoming more athletic, consistency is the number one way to succeed. If you’re being consistent but no longer seeing results, there’s a good chance you’re not stressing your body enough to force change.... One way to force change is by progressively overloading your movements. Progressive Overload can happen in 4 ways: 1. Increasing instensity (load) 2. Increasing volume (amount of sets/reps) 3. Increasing your weekly frequency 4. Increasing time under tension (controlled eccentric movements) Our goal in May is to be as consistent as possible. The whole month is built around the 6 essential movements - squat, lunge, hip hinge, press, pull, and plank (core work). Every week you will see the same major movement patterns (accessories will vary). We have created a Progress Journal to go along with our weekly workouts which will allow you to track your workouts and weights the entire month. If used correctly, this journal will help you be more consistent and give you that extra edge when it comes to progressing your exercises. We are 3 days away from SLAY MAY! SLAY MAY MEAL PLANS Let’s be honest, we’re all guilty of this. Training extremely hard and then not giving our body the adequate nutrition it needs to recover or feel fuelled for our next training session. For Slay the month of May, our Certified Nutritionist, @chelsea.kent17, has been working hard to create a handful of semi-personalized meal plans that will help us dial in our eating habits and make sure we feel ready to tackle the month. ... We’ve created 2 meal plan options that are catered towards your goals this month. One has a small caloric surplus for those that want to put on muscle and gain strength. The second option has a slight deficit catered toward losing fat but also maintaining energy for your workouts. *You can still build muscle in a deficit with keeping your protein high, just not as quickly as being in a surplus.* Both meal plans will have an emphasis on protein intake. This will be most optimal for building muscle and recovering for our next workout. However, depending on your goals, your daily calories will vary. You will be given a meal plan that is catered around your Basal Metabolic Rate + Daily Activity + Goals. Your meal plan will include: 4 separate Breakfasts, Lunches, and Suppers. You are free to prep the same meal for the entire week, or you can spice it up and eat a different meal every day! The choice is yours. A list of various snacks to eat in-between meals A Macronutrient + Calorie break down of each meal and Snacks A grocery list for each meal. You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers. . Question: Will the Slay May Pass be like the previous one and be a punch pass? . No, this Slay May Pass will give you a full month of unlimited classes. If you’d like to do more than the required 5 classes a week in May, you can totally do that!... . Question: What if I’m currently running an unlimited monthly membership? Will the Slay May Pass be good for after May? . That’s no problem! Your Slay May pass will be added to your account and be available to use after your current unlimited month expires. Even after May is finished. . Essentially the Slay May pass is the same as your regular unlimited month but with a few extra perks This is why we’ve made them the same price. . Question: Will I be able to attend classes in May if I’m not part of the challenge and using punch passes? . Yes! We have capped the challenge to leave enough space for anyone that is not doing the challenge to still attend classes! . SLAY the month of MAY . The biggest month of the year is almost here and we are extremely excited to share our new programming + extras with you. . In the past we’ve always done 30 workouts in 30 days while it’s an extremely hard challenge, it’s definitely not optimal when it comes to making progress without burning out.... . This year the challenge is to crush 5 workouts in in 1 week, for 4 weeks. . Each week you must hit: . 2 Upper body workouts (GUNSHOW ) . 2 Lower body + Core workouts (Cake ) . And 1 Cardio intensive day (The Spin Lab ) . This will give you 2 days off per week to recover and focus on other things like prepping your meals for the week . ANOTHA ONE Rise fam, say hello to our newest trainer @andreas_winn . I’ve been involved in fitness from an extremely young age. In my misguided youth I competed at the provincial level in gymnastics and was a member of Team Alberta. . Around grade 9, I found my niche in football and played to the university level. Due to this, I’ve been fortunate enough to be trained by some of the best strength and conditioning coaches in Canada.... . Upon a career-ending football injury, I joined the Canadian Armed Forces and am a current member of the North Saskatchewan Regiment, which has opened my eyes to very different style of fitness. . My training style is a combination of athletic development and functional fitness with the intent to create a functional athlete regardless of skill level or ability. . We should all train like athletes because we are all athletes! . While I’m new to the Rise community, The training world remains familiar. I’ve been a personal trainer at a local gym for the last 3 years and have been involved in youth athletic development, primarily football and track athletes, for the last 6 years. . I have experience training clients ranging from complete newcomers to high performance athletes and remain excited to work with all members of the amazing Rise community! . Outside of the gym, I am currently completing my BA in International Relations and plan to use that degree to progress my military career in the future. Everyone say hello to our newest Personal Trainer @veronicaboesch! . Fitness has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up dipping my toes into multiple sports such as volleyball, hockey, dance, and gymnastics, but my love for soccer was always number 1! . After about 10 years playing competitive soccer, I continued my love for the game by joining the U of R Cougars soccer team. I spent my 4 years on the team until I finished my degree, where my passion shifted more to b...odybuilding. . I’d always loved challenging my body in ways that would push me past my comfort zone and allow me to continue developing as an athlete, so I started training for my first of three bikini competitions. . During this time, I learned more about my own strengths, weaknesses, what works for my body and what I truly enjoy doing. Although fitness competitions were an amazing challenge both physically and mentally, my focus now is aimed more towards maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle. . My goal is to never stop learning, while helping others become the best versions of themselves. Being someone who’s taken several approaches to fitness, I’m aware it looks different for everyone. . Hey Rise Fam! Say hello to one of our newest Coaches, @alexpoliakiwski . I am so pumped and extremely grateful to become an official part of this amazing team! . For those of you who do not know me, my name is Alexandra and I have been training at Rise for nearly 3 years.... . Sports and fitness has always been a big part of my life. . At the age of 8 my father enrolled myself and my 3 sisters into a martial art called Judo. He believed that we should know how to defend ourselves and made it a huge priority that we succeeded. . Because of Judo I was able to travel the world and eventually after years of training and competitions I had earned my Black Belt. . Looking back I think the two accomplishments that I am most proud of would be when I became the National Champion for my weight class and winning Gold in Paris, France for team Canada. . Outside of Judo I also played AAA hockey. Balancing my life with judo and hockey was extremely tough. Not only for me, but also my parents. I have no idea how they were able to keep up with our crazy athletic schedules. . I’ve always had a strong love for the gym and training. Fitness has been many things for me. . A way to reduce my stress, a way to push my limits and become stronger mentally. It has shown me what I’m capable of and has built my confidence. . With that being said - I cannot wait to start this next step in my fitness journey and share all of the things I’ve learned along the way with you. I love finding joy in all the small things around us, smile lots, laugh more - that’s my mantra!... . I love celebrating even the smallest of victories for people because success is still success even if it’s small. I can’t wait to hug and high five people again, so air high fives and feet bumps have to do for now. . Of course, being that I have been heavily involved in sports my whole life I wanted to double the challenge. . Naturally I found myself competing for absolutely no reason against two other men at the gym (Matt and Evan). Within days I knew every person at that gym and felt like I had been going to it for years.... . This of course was Rise Strength Lab. . I have been spinning for over two years, taken two spin instructor training courses and cannot express what it has done for my body, mind and confidence. Spin gives you the opportunity to be whatever type of person you want to be. . As a previous UofS Huskie athlete, I crave being part of a team and working together which is what I want my riders to feel. . We’d like to introduce our newest Trainer: @nichallgrimson . Fitness and sport have always been a part of my life. Growing up I played many sports but the one I had the most passion for and always stuck with was gymnastics. . I’ve trained for about 20 years as a gymnast and competed at 7 national championships during my competitive career.... . Growing up so heavily involved in sport, I was always intrigued by the science behind everything I was doing in the gym. . This led me to complete my bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2018. I was still itching to learn more, so I continued my education by also completing my master’s degree in kinesiology with a focus on injury risk mechanisms and sports biomechanics. . The thought of running multiple events for our community quickly got derailed and swapped with being stuck by ourselves in this empty gym, without you guys.... . But we didn’t let that stop us. Instead we faced 2020 head on and can proudly say that we did everything possible for you, the community that raised us. . When other companies stepped back, we stepped up. . We rented + shipped out our entire gym to you. . We started doing weekly workout challenges with prizes for our participants. . We brought you SLAY THE MONTH OF MAY, and IF YOU DIE... YOU DIE month of October - 30 workouts in 30 days - all for free. . 82 completely free workouts, all of which are still viewable in our story highlights. . People were being laid off, forced to work from home, and had no idea if they were going to lose their jobs. . This was our way of giving back to everyone that continued to support. . JUNE 8TH!! LETS GOO! . We have a lot of work to do to get us operating again and obviously things will be different than before. . Heres our rough draft for re-opening:... *Will adjust as governments regulations change* . If you kept your monthly gym membership you will be able to use our app and sign into our Open Gym Class. This will give you access to the gym for 1 hour and 45 minutes. A new class will be available every 2 hours for the entire day. . Access will be limited to 12 people at a time. This will allow us to have up to 3 staff members in the gym at any time to keep up with cleaning and disinfecting. . We will not be signing up any new gym members until more restrictions are lifted. . If youre currently renting equipment, we will be needing the equipment back on June 1st, so we can start equipping the gym! . As for classes, we will be taking them outdoors for at least a month. All classes will be held at Rotary park, with a max capacity of 24 people. . We will be using this time to hire and train new trainers for the new classes we want to add in the fall! So if youre interested in training and running classes, Holla! . RISE + GRIND WILL BE BACK! . Sundays we will run 3 back to back classes with a 30 minute break in between classes max capacity of 24. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to say THANK YOU . When we first heard the news of COVID-19 and how businesses were being forced to close, we were scared. Mostly we were scared about the health of ourselves and our loved ones, but also scared about what would happen to the gym and community. . This is our only source of income and we pay ourselves very little, just enough to get by. The rest is re-invested back into the gym through equipment and upkeep.... . We were not prepared for a shut down. . Weve been closed for over a month and now more than ever, we are extremely grateful for the country that we live in. F*ck you, COVID-19. . We have had a lot of questions regarding this pandemic and how we plan on approaching it, so hopefully this helps cover a few of them. . The short answer is that we will be staying open until we are told otherwise.... . That being said, we are taking every precaution and additional steps to our cleaning process in order to combat the spread of any bacteria + virus in our space. . Our staffed hours will be increased to 8am - 8pm on weekdays and during this time our main job will be to disinfectant all equipment and touchable surfaces. . We will be providing hand sanitizer stations for our members and extra bottles and wipes for cleaning equipment. . Chalk is being replaced by liquid chalk, its one extra step in reducing contact and also the added benefit of liquid chalk is that its alcohol based and can double as a minor cleaning agent. . Towel service has been put on hold. At the moment we are urging everyone to bring their own towels if they need to shower after their workout. . We have added more class times in attempt to reduce the amount of people in our gym at once. The capacity has been dropped from 36 to 16. In accordance, group classes are still available to all new members. .
