The weather provided the perfect opportunity for a little makeshift curling out at Ron's Rink! For those who don't know what Ron's Rink is, it's a hand poured curling rink by Ron - a Rising Above participant. He has spent hours out there pouring buckets of water in preparation for a day such as this! We were very glad to have the chance to get out there and have some winter fun!

Rising Above would like to send out a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who supported us over the holiday season. From provided lunches, treats, financial contributions and well-wishes, we received it all with the most grateful hearts. We would be lying if we said this Christmas season was easy. It was not. But the love and support provided by our generous community touched many hearts here at Rising Above...and there are no words to express our gratitude. You continue to ble...ss our ministry. Even in these strange times, our community keeps rallying around us and lifting us up so we can help those in need. It takes a community to do what we do. And we couldn't ask for a better community than the one right here in Grande Prairie <3 Much love, Rising Above

Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of year where we set aside our differences and "be merry". But Christmas can be a reminder to many people of all the reasons why not to be merry during this time of year. Instead of shoving the sadness back down where it often stays hidden, we allow it to come out into the open to be seen and felt. We acknowledge the existence of pain and that Christmas is the saddest season. This has become a tradition at Rising Above and we call it... "Blue Christmas". Each one of these candles represent the pain of Rising Above participants and were lite to acknowledge that pain. The pain of losing someone to suicide, addiction, or natural causes. The pain of broken relationships. The pain of job loss. The pain of feeling inhuman. The pain of regret. The pain of failure. As we sat there watching the candles dance in the dark of the classroom, we could feel warmth. And that warmth felt a lot like Hope

Roy & Kali Family Dental Centre have done it again!! Every month, this fantastic business blesses our organization by providing a catered lunch for participants to enjoy <3 This time it was homemade chicken cordon bleu with a delicious garden salad prepared by the lovely folks at Europa Deli Sausage Hut. Every year, Helen Harder - Realty One Group Northern Advantage blesses our organization with a financial contribution and she always says "I trust you with however you choose to use this donation." People like Helen and her team continue to put Rising Above in a position to help others. Helen, thank you for believing in our organization and supporting us throughout the year. Without people like you, there would be no us

This guy is celebrating 66 days of sobriety Tyler has been in the program since September 17th and is learning what it means to live a healthy and wholesome life. When asked what he's enjoying most in the program, he says it's having the opportunity to heal and get to the root issues through Inner Healing. He also mentions his appreciation towards the staff. "They are loving and would do anything for you." Tyler's hope for the future is finding a full-time job that he love...s and being able to spend time with the people that mean the most to him. We are honored to work alongside Tyler as he takes the steps to change his life. He is a man who is truly learning what it means to stand up for what he believes in and for those he cares about. In 2 short months, Tyler has really committed himself to doing the hard work to live a whole and healthy life. Let's hear it for Tyler #sobersaturday #sobrietyrocks #gpab #yqu #risingabove

6 months ago, this guy would be running the opposite direction if asked to speak in front of a class full of people. Although still nervous to speak publicly, Terren stood in front of his peers on his graduation day and gave a 10 minute speech on how life has changed for him in the last 6 months. This alone is a testament on just how far this man has come! During Terren's time at Rising Above, he put a considerable amount of effort into the 6-month program. We have seen Terre...n go from a very closed off and shy person to a man who is finding his identity and his voice. This blesses us greatly to see him realizing God's truth in his life! Terren, we are so proud of you and we are excited to see what the Lord has in store for you #graduationday #newbeginnings #recoveryjourney

Prayer for Remembrance Day Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that God may give us peace: for the service men and women... who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God; may God give peace. God give peace. For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss; may God give peace. God give peace. For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; may God give peace. God give peace. For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity; may God give peace. God give peace. For peacemakers and peacekeepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; may God give peace. God give peace. For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace; may God give peace. God give peace. O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honor the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever. Amen. - author unknown
