Nursery schools in Manitoba have just learned that our PC government is cutting enhanced funding that allows them to offer $5/day care for low income families i...n need. The impacts of these cuts will be far reaching: -Nursery programs will become unaffordable for a large number of families. -Approx. seventy nursery school programs will be placed in financial peril. This will ultimately lead to some of them collapsing. -Many low income children will be robbed of an important development opportunity that would have otherwise given them a significant advantage in their early school years. The PCs are pushing as hard as they can to defund public childcare with the goal of increasing the footprint of for profit centres in Manitoba. This will mean increased costs and lower quality childcare for our kids. If you’re concerned about these funding cuts, please consider emailing our new Minister of Families (Rochelle Squires) to let her know that we’re headed in the wrong direction.
