Graves Bridge Damage (EB Glenmore Trail over Heritage Dr & Bow River) On May 10, the bridge was hit by a private garbage truck while heading northbound on Herit...age Drive SE. The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) attended and a City structural engineer was on scene to inspect the bridge due to the extent of structural damage. Traffic Condition The far-right lane on eastbound Glenmore Trail will remain closed to protect the damaged bridge girder until a structural load evaluation can be completed. All lanes of Heritage Drive are open as the site is secure and debris has been cleared. Inspection The bridge was inspected by the City engineering team and a structural engineering firm retained by the City. Structural concerns include reduced flexural strength of the exterior girder due to concrete section loss and exposed PT cables. A structural load evaluation to determine allowable loads will be completed due to the loss of flexural capacity from the damaged girder. Based on the outcome of the structural analysis, lane closures may be amended. This work will be finalized over the next several days. Engineering design to restore the flexural capacity of the bridge will commence following completion of the load evaluation. This design work will start following the load assessment. A future update will be provided once the design is complete. Subsequent lane closures may be required on both primary routes (Glenmore Trail and Heritage Drive).
