Flash Mob Pages Collection: Black Beauty This month's Flash Mob is dyed by the amazing artists at Fleece Artist & Handmaiden Fine Yarns in Nova Scotia and is inspired by the book Black Beauty (1877) by author Anna Sewell. Black Beauty is a story uniquely told from the perspective of the horse himself. Jana from Hand Maiden tells us, "With the black beauty colour we were inspired by the very specific description of the horse, the shine of his coat and mane and the detail of t...he white hoof and white star on his forehead. It seemed obvious to us that the soft shiny kid mohair was the closest yarn we could get to invoke this. We didn't use black dye in our black beauty colour, rather a mix of over 10 different colours to make black. The result is a deep layered pigment. The white star and hoof was created with an ikat binding technique, and will produce a high contrast white dot of a couple of stitches when knit." "Superkid Silk is the finest quality of kid mohair, from the first clip of the kid, which typically only produces 350g per goat. The silk is mulberry silk"super" grade." Our friend Roberta has been keeping busy during the pandemic. She found an online video for the waffle stitch (crochet) and she's been "hooked" ever since. We're really proud of Roberta for sticking with her craft and for learning online. We all know how challenging it can be to continue to develop your skills more or less, in isolation. Congratulations, Roberta. You're motivating all of us to stick with it.
