River's Edge Running Series 04.01.2021

A year late perhaps, but we are hopeful we will be able to hold Hill of a Race this year on the 10th April. This will be a challenge for all, running up and down the snow at Rabbit Hill Snow Resort soon after they have closed for the season but before the snow disappears. Three distances will be offered. The Snack: twice around an approximately 2.5kms course. A la Carte: four times around the course. All Day Buffet: how many loops you can do in six hours.... Medals will be awarded to every finisher, each runner receives a day pass to Rabbit Hill Snow Resort for the 2021/2022 season and one lucky winner will receive a draw prize of a family season pass. To sign up go to www.riversedgeultra.com

RACE THE STEEDS AUGUST 7, 2021 We have a name, we have a date and we have a logo. We hope to have everything in place by January to open registration, so save the date if you want to be part of an exciting new event put on by River's Edge Ultra Running Series in partnership with Endurance Riders of Alberta. Almost 80 years ago, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Robert Bower raced against a horse in a six-day event on a half-mile track. It was a close race but on the fourth d...ay, Bower withdrew because of a sore toe. Today, as far as we have been able to discover, there are only five "man vs. horse" races in the world. We hope to be the sixth, but we will be the longest. We will offer 100 and 50 mile courses. It is rare for a runner to win these races but hopefully it will happen one day at Race the Steeds. See https://ultrarunninghistory.com/man-vs-horse/ for fascinating stories of "man vs. horse" over the years.

River's Edge Running Series 07.11.2020

It was about a year ago that we began planning the first Hill of a Race event to be held at Rabbit Hill on the 5th April 2020. Sadly Covid 19 put an end to our plans. However we are confident that we will be able to hold it on the 10th April of 2021. The 2.5km course will go up and down the snow covered slopes of the ski area and depending on the weather will be slushy, icy or maybe even fresh powder. Three distances will be offered. The 5km or two loops of the 2.5km course ...is called the snack, the 10KM, four loops of the 2.5KM will be called A la Carte and the 6 hour event to see how many of the 2.5KM loops can be completed will be the All Day Buffet. Overall winners male and female will win a free entry to any of the solo distances of River's Edge Ultra. All entrants will recive a one day lift pass to Rabbit Hill for the 21/22 season and all finishers will receive a handmade medal. We are also hoping for some great draw prizes. Registration for this new event and for REU to be held on September 25th 2021 is now open. Go to www.riversedgeultra.com to register. See more

I am encouraged by the response to my post of yesterday. However it has been brought to my notice that the date I announced is the same as Black Spur which I had thought was in September. I do not want to clash with one of the Sinister Triple or with any other popular races close by. Running the race means we not only compete for runners but also for volunteers who are equally as important to the success of any race. So, for the moment the date of the new race is TBD. It will be around August September. I will announce it as soon as we know.

River's Edge Ultra Running Series and the Endurance Riders of Alberta are working together to hold a 50 and 100 mile runner versus rider event next summer. Actual date to be decided. We are in the early stages of planning but we are sufficiently confident of pulling this off so we invited runners and riders for a photo shoot. The attached stunning photos from Connie McNeice of BeautiFlow Photography show that runners and riders can share the trails
