Happy New Year! or perhaps, Happy End of the Old Year! We pried Ted out of the winery where he was blending and tasting today for a quiet evening of cards and too much food again with 2/3 kids at the cabin. It has been an interesting year and what better way to end it with a bottle or two of the Malbec Rose? I learned this evening that there is small stash (other than the depleted "winemaker's wife stash" - yes, it is labeled as such ) that still had a couple bottles. All our best to everyone in 2021. May it be a 'roseier' year.

Ted and Lorraine Kane... A COVID Christmas ‘Twas the year 2020 When all through the land Not a party was hosted Not a note from the band. The masks were all hung On the hooks by the door The only excursions: Work, school, grocery store. Sanitizer was placed By each entrance there was These things became normal Just what everyone does. PPE, social distance Words commonly said, Reported, repeated, Requested and read. Dr. Tam and the others Taught us new ways Guiding through the pandemic Toward brighter days. Most were respectful Of what doctors asked They followed restrictions Stayed home and stayed masked. Hope on the horizon With words of vaccines We dared to imagine Much happier scenes. The times were not easy Christmas would be spent Away from our loved ones - But we knew what that meant. We’d flatten that curve We’d squash it right down We’d kick it and punch it And beat it around. Just like the Grinch Covid would lose the fight It would NOT steal Christmas It would NOT steal the light! It would NOT steal hope Or love or connection It would NOT overrule Faith or affection. We’d still be together Though distanced apart We’d skype, text and zoom We’d all do our part Now sitting at home Enclosed in our bubble No choice this Christmas But to stay out of trouble! No longer the words Family, friends and good cheer Will be taken for granted At this time of year. Just think how exciting The future will be When just getting together Is done easily. And attending a concert Church or a class Eating out at a restaurant And raising a glass So as we ring in the New Year With a quiet invite May we remember those lost And continue our fight. Better days are ahead In 2021 May we count all our blessings And plan some SERIOUS fun!!!
