Our Vietnamese Pot-bellied Pig Steve enjoying some pumpkins! At the Zoo our Pot-bellied pigs enjoy a diet of mini pig pellets, bran, and mixed fruit and veggies. They also occasionally love treats like this pumpkin! Animal adoptions go a long way here at Riverview Park and Zoo to help with health care, nutrition, training and enrichment. Visit our website: Www.riverviewparkandzoo.ca #bringingthezootoyou #ClosedButStillCaring #amazinganimals #pigtails #pumpkin

The first real snowfall at the barn yard this season. Our pot bellied pig (so named for its round sagging abdomen, which usually drags close to the ground) is happy for the shovelled pathway created by the zookeeper. Checkout our Slender Tailed Meerkats! These guys are chilling in their hammock that our zookeepers have built as a form of enrichment! Here at the Zoo we use many different types of enrichment to stimulate the the animals minds and mimic different activity’s that they would do in the wild! Enrichment focuses on a variety of different things including tastes, smells, textures, and sounds! Animal adoptions also help fund our enrichment programs for your adoptive animal! #ClosedButStillCaring #bringingthezootoyou #meerkats #amazinganimals

Meet Iggy our Green Iguana! The Green Iguana is also known as the Common Iguana, native to Mexico, Caribbean Islands, Central and South America. This species can vary in colour which is caused by age, temperature, breeding season, mood or health. As a defence mechanism, Green Iguanas can autotomize, which means they can drop their tail to escape predators. Their tail will grow back within a year, however, it will not grow to be the same length as before! #NationalIguanaAwarenessDay #ClosedButStillCaring #BringingTheZooToYou
