Riverwood Ranch 19.01.2021

It’s been a sorrow day as we lost a founding member of Riverwood today. A true friend, teacher and inspiration of a horse. The horse that single handedly changed my life and has shaped the history of this ranch forever to come. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express how much this horse has taught me. He was the first horse on the property and instilled a passion and drive for horsemanship that will continue not only with my family but to everyone who visits the ranch. H...is spunk, try and grit always kept me on my toes and he made darn sure I learned the value of working like hell for anything that mattered. Sundance was the horse The one you tell your grandkids about. The one you compare all other horses too. A horse that your lucky to get to know. His legacy lives on in this ranch, with his hoof prints imprinted in the barn. Sundance, rest easy my friend. Your a horse we will never forget. Now Angels Ride Him When Father Time caught my Gelding. The leaves were turning brown. He was suffering and couldn’t eat, It was time to put him down. It’s hard to do what you need to. When your eyes are soaking wet. I thought about my childhood and waited for the vet. I held his halter, talked to him And looked him in the eye. He had no way of knowin’ What was makin his friend cry. I guess I wasn’t ready When he fell it made me weep. I rubbed his nose and sang to him. He slowly went to sleep A Breeze blew down from somewhere. And brushed away my tears. Like a kiss from heaven, For all the happy years. In my mind he’s in a meadow, The grass is long and green. He teaches every kid to ride And becomes their favourite dream -BISHOP

Happy New Year Everyone! My phone created a little recap video of the year and I had to admit it made me smile! It’s been a tough year for everyone but there still has been lots of good! We worked lots on our new arena and home, trained numerous horses and (mules), taught a bunch of riding lessons and had lots of obstacle fun while having another successful cattle year! Here’s to 2021. It’s going to be better than ever

I read a Quote today that said We steer the boat, we don’t alter the river. My own take on this would be to insert something about steering the horse.... but that’s beside the point It got me thinking lots about 2020 and all the challenges we have faced this year. I think we can all agree its been a rough year. Yet I look around to all the people who are doing their best, helping one another and in all honestly just trying to get by. Makes me want to take another breath and think to happier times and remember that we can always steer to a new path. Send some positivity out today to anyone who needs it! We got this #riverwoodranch #toughtimesdontlasttoughpeopledo

Been a while since we have given an update on barn construction! Some huge gains this month! Plumbing and heating and electrical are almost finished, propane is in, doors and windows have been added, insulation 80% complete and drywall and wood siding being delivered this week! Going to have walls soon! Huge progress on tack lockers and getting ready to open up for horse boarding. I cannot express how much work has went into this project and how thankful we are! Huge thank you to Devon, my dad Bruce, my Uncle Gilbert and Kevin and Riley from murds plumbing and heating and our friend Anthony who has done work on our electrical. #buildingthedream #riverwoodranch

Good Morning Everyone! We have received many calls and emails yesterday concerning the newest AHS COVID restrictions with questions on how this influences us here at Riverwood Ranch. To be completely honest I’m not entirely sure. The equine/ranch industry has been a bit of a grey area as we are unique in being able to provide social distance, privatized instruction and other safety measures. Many of you have heard me say around the barn, I’m just trying to be part of the solution, not the problem. I’ll be on the horn today as well trying to make some plans to keep everyone in our community safe. I’ll be posting more as soon as I know! Thanks for your patience everyone.
