Rivison Renovations 03.01.2021

We have done a cute project for a regular customer. They wanted a simple shed to complement the workshop we built last year.

We used some products that are new to us in a verandah repair. The new floor is Thermally Modified Ash milled into tongue and groove. We used Accoya for repairs to the posts and railings. Both of these products are meant to be rot resistant to the same level as pressure treated wood or better. The price is high but the customer and I were happy with the result.

A small repair job we did was interesting. The roof had leaked and the resulting rot around the support rods had allowed it to sag. We hired an engineer who came up with the design for steel plates to take the load. A new rubber membrane replaced the former tar and gravel roof.

We have just finished the second of two steel roofs. Both of them ended up requiring soffit, fascia and eavestrough repairs. The Heritage Silver colour was chosen by a customer who has strong environmental concerns. The Pacific Turquoise was chosen by a customer with a fondness for colour.

I have a steel roof project I am working on. The roof was leaking so it is essential work. In these COVID times I am working on it with just the client who is also a contractor. They have chosen a standing seam profile which is the first time I have installed that. The colour is graphite.

COVID 19 has meant that we are shut down, waiting for the rate of infections to drop to a safe level. Before I laid staff off we managed to get a lot done here at the Mattress Factory. Late last year we made weatherstripped storm windows for the upper two floors and a complete window for the third floor bathroom. In the first few months of this year we made 34 interior room and closet doors. Since then I have worked on smaller scale projects such as a canoe chandelier, open shelf cabinets for above and beside the stove and a couple of birthday presents for Hermione.

With the mild weather we have been making some progress on the outdoor work that we didn't get finished last year. This is a workshop that we have now almost finished. We will be back in the spring to do the eavestrough.
