Welcome to the 22nd Sunday after Trinity! Our theme for today: Walking humbly with our God and forgiving one another With what shall we come before the Lord (Micah 6:6) who forgives all our sins, and how often shall our fellow Christians sin against us and we forgive them (Matt. 18:21)? Our gracious God on high does not need our burnt offerings or thousands of rams (Micah 6:6-7), which we could legitimately offer in thanksgiving. He is the Savior who gave His only-begotte...n Son for our transgression. He offers the fruit of His body, once hanging dead on a cross but now living and giving life in His holy Meal, for the sin of our souls (Micah 6:7). Because He releases us from our enormous debt of sin against Him, we need not imprison our fellow sinners with our lack of love and refusal of forgiveness (Matt. 18:24, 27, 30). As partakers of His grace, we yearn for one another with the affection of Christ Jesus (Phil. 1:8). As forgiven sinners, filled with the fruit of Christ’s righteousness, our love may abound more and more, with knowledge and discernment (Phil. 1:11, 9), for He leads us to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with [our] God (Micah 6:8). Service is inside the Monkton church today at 9:30AM, Logan at 11AM, and Tavistock at 1:30PM. As always, our service is available online: https://www.logan-monkton.com/wordp//sermons-and-services/

Occasion: Second Sunday of Advent, aka Populus Sion, "People of Zion" The Lord Comes on the Last Day The day on which our Lord returns will be a great and awesome day (Mal. 4:5). For He will come in a cloud with great power and glory. To the wicked and the proud, it will be a Day of judgment that will set them ablaze (Mal. 4:1). The signs preceding this Day will bring them fear and fainting. But to those who believe, who fear the name of the Lord, this Day is one to look ...forward to and rejoice in: . . . straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near (Luke 21:28). Christ our Redeemer is coming; the Sun of Righteousness will bring healing in His wings. Let us, then, give attention to the words of the Lord, which do not pass away. Let us through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures (Rom. 15:4) be strengthened in our hope by the Holy Spirit and watch diligently for Jesus’ coming. Then, by God’s grace, we shall escape all these things that will come to pass and stand before the Son of Man. The name for this Sunday, like last Sunday, is from the introit normally spoken or chanted at the start of service. In Latin, the introit begins with: Pópulus Sion, ecce, Dóminus véniet ad salvándas gentes In English, this gives us: Say to the people of Zion, "Behold, your salvation comes" As people of God, we are thankful that our salvation has arrived in Christ Jesus. Welcome to All Saints Day! Our theme for today is that the Saints Are Blessed in the Eternal Presence of Christ A great multitude from all tribes and peoples and languages, cry out salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne (Rev. 7:917). Faith-filled saints from every place and time with unified voices eternally magnify the Lamb of God. As His beloved children, we too, shall see him as he is (1 John 3:13). Joined with the throng of angels and a myriad of sa...ints, we shall serve him day and night in his temple (Rev. 7:917). In our earthly tension vacillating between saint and sinner, faith and doubt, sacred and profane, we earnestly seek Jesus to calm our fears, comfort our spirits, and forgive our sins. The Holy Spirit, through faith in Christ propels us forward, fortifying us in Word and Sacrament, to our eternal home. In the midst of our constant struggle as believers, we need to be blessed. And so we are. The poor in spirit, the meek, the hungry, the thirsty, the merciful, the pure, and the persecuted are all blessed and we will most certainly inherit the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 5:112). Service is in the church today at 9:30AM. There is no communion this week. As always, our service is available online: https://www.logan-monkton.com/wordp//sermons-and-services/

It is the Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity Sunday! Do not put yourself forward in the king’s presence (Prov. 25:614). Rather, take the lowest position at the table. Humble yourself before Him. For your place is not for you to take but for Him to give. Conduct yourself with all lowliness and gentleness, bearing with one another in love (Eph. 4:16), that the King may give you glory in the presence of those at the table with you. For everyone who exalts himself will be humb...led, and he who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 14:111). Is this not the way of Christ? He is the one who took the lowest place, who humbled Himself even to the point of death for us. He is now exalted to the highest place at the right hand of the Father that penitent believers may be exalted together with Him in the resurrection. To the humble at His Supper He says, Friend, move up higher, giving you His very body and blood for your forgiveness that you may ascend to take part in the great wedding feast which has no end. Our pre-recorded services are available online at https://logan-monkton.com

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ! Today we celebrate Reformation Sunday, a remembrance of the Reformation that began over 500 years ago with Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenburg Church. And what exactly do we celebrate about it? Why, nothing less than the pure Gospel of God handed to us through the scriptures, which enables faith in Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit! The Son of God Has Set Us Free from...Continue reading

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! Today is the 16th Sunday after Trinity. Today's general theme is that God gives hope to our earthly lives through the Gospel. When we come to trust our Savior for redemption, we don't simply squeeze Him into an already crowded agenda, we rather rebuild our lives with Him at the center so that He influences all facets of our existence. In the Gospel lesson for today, a large funeral procession carrying the only son of a widow is ...confronted by another large procession, Jesus and His followers. Death and Life meet face to face at the gate of the city (Luke 7:1117). Filled with compassion, Jesus comes into direct contact with our mortality in order to overcome it. He touches the coffin and speaks His creative words of life, Young man, I say to you, arise. Jesus does what is neither expected nor requested. For through Christ, God the Father is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think (Eph. 3:1421). Jesus bore our death in His body that we may share in His resurrection. Even as Elijah stretched himself out three times over the Zarephath woman’s son (2 Kings 17:1724), God stretched Himself out over us in the threefold application of His name in the baptismal water, breathing new and everlasting life into us. To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Our service for today can be found here: https://logan-monkton.com/

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus the Christ! Welcome to the 15th Sunday after Trinity. We are called to serve God in a world where we meet a great deal of opposition. Our Lord Himself clearly warned us not to expect an easy time as we set out to serve in His kingdom. How can we find courage to respond to God? Today's worship tells us that such courage comes when we trust Him. You cannot serve God and money (Matt. 6:2434), for they require two contrary forms of servi...ce. Worry is the worship given to the false god of mammon, an unbelieving anxiousness and focus on the things of this world. Faith is the worship of the true God, a confident trust that He is a loving Father who will care for all of our needs in both body and soul. The widow of Zarephath served God that is, she believed the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah that the bin of flour would not be used up nor would the jar of oil run dry (1 Kings 17:816). He who feeds the birds and clothes the flowers will certainly provide for our daily needs. For He has already provided for our eternal needs, clothing us with Christ’s righteousness in Baptism and feeding us His body and blood for our forgiveness. With such confidence we are liberated from worry and freed to do good with our material resources, especially to those who are of the household of faith (Gal. 5:256:10). Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ! It is the fourteenth Sunday after Trinity Sunday. Our theme of the day is that The Christian rejoices in worshiping God! God has done and continues to do so very much for us, how can we show gratitude to Him? Today's service emphasizes that worship is the expression of our thanks to our gracious Father in heaven. In worship we join other believers in publicly proclaiming what a great and good God we have! This i...s a day of joy and celebration and is important as an opportunity to educate our people on proper attitudes in worship. In The Gospel, Jesus heals ten lepers, but only one of them, a Samaritan, expresses faith and gratitude by bothering to return and worship Him. We are all called to be thankful - all the time, rain or shine, dark or light. God is always good, and we are always to praise Him! Drive-in Church Details Drive-in Church for this month will be at First Lutheran Church in Logan, at 11AM, at the east side of the building. Members are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs or remain in their vehicle and listen on the radio (94.7FM). Please ensure that safe social distancing is kept in effect, which means 2 M (6 feet) between you and anyone who isn't a part of your current social circle, or 3.3 M (10 feet) if you would like to sing outside of your car. The church will not be open for washrooms and there will be no collection. However, we still encourage you to contribute to your church as the financial responsibilities are ongoing. Tavistock As some of you may remember, roughly a year and a half ago, Logan and Monkton were invited to consider forming a tri-parish with the saints in Tavistock. For various good reasons, this motion was defeated in a congregational vote. Since the conditions have changed, and Tavistocks need has grown, there is a wish to reconsider forming a triple parish. I urge you to ponder this, pray about it, and let your council and elders know your thoughts, so that the will of the congregation, as part of the body of Christ, can be made known. Devotions Our devotions are delivered daily on the website. Service details: As usual, our service can be found online: https://www.logan-monkton.com/wordp//sermons-and-services/

Welcome to the 13th Sunday after Trinity! September has come, and change is in the air. It's cooler out at night, school is starting soon, and summer holidays are drawing to a close. As we return to a more "typical" schedule, it's a vivid reminder of the law. After all, emergency laws have changed our way of life in Canada since COVID-19 took off back at the beginning of the year. We live under the laws of Canada, and of course also the law of God. The Law of God cannot help ...us or give us life. Rather, it confines everyone under sin as wounded and naked before God (Gal. 3:1522). So it is that two figures of the Law, the priest and the Levite, passed by the injured man on the side of the road (Luke 10:2337). Only the promised Seed of Abraham can rescue us and make us righteous before God. Only the Samaritan, our Lord Jesus, had compassion, as did the Samaritans of old (2 Chronicles 28:815). He came down to us in our lost and dying condition, pouring on the oil and wine of the Sacraments. He placed us on His own animal, bearing our sin and brokenness in His body on the cross to restore us. Jesus brought us to the inn, that is, the Church, and gave the innkeeper two denarii, that His double forgiveness might continue to be ministered to us. In this way the Lord, by whose Law we are torn and stricken, heals us and revives us by His Gospel and raises us up with Himself. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ! It is the 13th Sunday after Pentecost, or the 12th Sunday after Trinity Sunday. We've reached the last Sunday in August. It seems incredible that in just over a week, children will be returning to school. Summer may be over, but the "Sonshine" of love from Jesus Christ our Saviour is as warm as ever! The theme of today is that the Christian rejoices in worshiping God. God has done and continues to do so very muc...h for us, how can we show gratitude to Him? Today's service emphasizes that worship is the expression of our thanks to our gracious Father in heaven. In worship we join other believers in publicly proclaiming what a great and good God we have! This is a day of joy and celebration and is important as an opportunity to educate our people on proper attitudes in worship. The underlying sub-theme today tells us the child of God remains faithful in worship in spite of trial and opposition. The Old Testament Lesson shows us the prophet finding joy in his service to God in spite of persecution. The Epistle teaches us to worship God properly by blessing those who do evil to us. In the Gospel, Jesus shows His devotion to His Father by His determination to carry out the plan of salvation at the cost of His own suffering. Drive-in Church Details Drive-in Church today will be at Redeemer Church Monkton, 9am in the parking lot. NOTE: Starting next week, (for all of September), service will be at Logan at 11AM. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ! It is the 12th Sunday after Pentecost, or the 11th Sunday after Trinity Sunday. We're over halfway through August! So much has happened this year, it's hard to believe that we have already lived with COVID in some form for almost nine months already. And yet we have so much to be thankful for, so let us rejoice in God's salvation! Our theme for today is that we Christians find joy in imitating Christ. The sub-t...heme of for today points to God's redemption of His people as the fullest revelation of His love. The Old Testament Lesson reveals God promising to redeem the Israelites and all who call upon the LORD. In the Epistle, Paul teaches us that God's ways are beyond human understanding. His love does not always act in ways we would expect. The Gospel is Peter's confession, and Christ's statement that it will be the rock on which the Church will be built. Drive-in Church for the month of August will be at Redeemer Church Monkton, 9AM in the parking lot. In September, drive-in Church will be in Logan at 11AM. Redeemer Lutheran Church 21.07.2020

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus the Christ! It is the eleventh Sunday after Pentecost. The theme for today is simple - that God's love embraces and supports those who suffer. The sub-theme of this Sunday shows that God gives hope to all who suffer. The Psalmist confidently speaks of God's blessings on His people and calls on us to join in His praise. In the Old Testament Lesson, the Prophet encourages us with the thought of the coming Messiah and assures ...Gentiles that they, too, have hope in this Savior. Thus God's love is revealed for all mankind. The Epistle teaches Gentiles that in Christ they are acceptable to God even as are the Jews. No room is left for any people to think they must suffer because God has rejected them. In the Gospel, our Savior heals the daughter of the Canaanite woman after He briefly tests her faith. Again there is the assurance that God's love embraces all who trust Him. Drive-in Church Details Drive-in Church for the month of August will be at Redeemer Church Monkton, 9am in the parking lot. Pastor will be positioned at the rear corner of the study. Please park accordingly in the parking lot. Members are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and sit in front of their cars or remain in their vehicle and listen on the radio (94.7FM). Service Details Our service, as usual, can be found online at our website https://logan-monkton.com

Redeemer Lutheran Church 17.07.2020

Well, brothers and sisters - we've made it all the way to the Tenth Sunday after Pentecost. The sub-theme of our readings this week tell us that the servant of God shows humility by confidently trusting Him. The Psalmist pleads for mercy and thanks Him for the assurance of His help. The Old Testament Lesson presents Elijah, who, when he looks to himself and his accomplishments is discouraged, but is pointed by God to what He has done through him. In the Epistle, Paul mourns h...is country men whose pride has kept them from the Savior. In the Gospel, Jesus shows His perfect humility in His prayer life, while Peter and the other disciples, not yet trusting Him as they ought, prove their weakness. As always, our services are available online on our website, https://logan-monkton.com If you can come in person, church is at 9AM in Monkton - weather permitting, sit on a lawn chair outside and hear the service, or stay in your car and tune in to 94.7 FM.
