It's a beautiful day to get outside! I've been sitting at the computer a lot this weekend but made sure to take a break to get my body moving and enjoy some fresh air. #NatureWalk #FreshAir #StayActive #RMTjessi

"outcome measures must reflect the environment, habits and lifestyle of the people they were originally developed for." Culturally-relevant assessments are vital to ensure clinical impressions are accurate and effectively inform the resulting treatment plans that are developed.

26 weeks today. Woke up with some dull, achy cramping around my abdomen and down the front of my thighs this morning. Hello Braxton Hicks! I didn't feel them with my last pregnancy so this is new for me. Sometimes referred to as "false labour" pains, Braxton Hicks contractions refer to sporadic/irregular contraction and relaxation of the uterine muscle; totally normal to begin experiencing these in the 2nd to 3rd trimester. They can be thought of as warm-up exercises for the... uterus, preparing for labour. My doula suggested trying the following: laying down to rest, taking a gentle walk, gentle stretching, or applying heat (a warm bath or a hot water bottle). For some folx movement helps and for others it takes being at rest for them to subside. For me, heat was soothing and rest was relieving but it was as stretching that really helped them dissipate.* *Note: This video is sped up quite a bit. I stretched slowly and within my comfortable limits (not pushing anything to end range), focusing on my belly breathing throughout to engage the deep abdominal muscles and release the pelvic floor. #Stretching #Pregnancy #PregnancyExercise #Movement #KeepMoving #DiaphragmaticBreathing #PelvicFloor #Uterus #Womb #ChildBirth #MuscleTension #SecondTrimester #BraxtonHicks #Contractions #RMTjessi #RMTlife #MassageTherapy #HomeCareExercise #RemedialExercise #Prehab

My SI joints have started acting up over the past few weeks on days that I've been more active (lots of walking or moving from sitting to standing a lot). It comes on as a dull ache in my low back and around my glutes and hip joints but the real kicker is the sharp pain I get right around the SI joint itself when transferring weight from one leg to the other. I've been trying out some taping techniques to support the SI joints and so far it's been helpful. Using a belly band is also great to take pressure off the low back while walking. Ask your practitioner (RMT, PT, or Chiro) if they do taping and if it might be helpful to support your rehabilitation journey! #SIjoint #JointPain #Pregnancy #Relaxin #Rehab #KinesiologyTape
