Well it was pretty overwhelming to sit among such a devoted clan of drag racing enthusiasts this evening. The executive of the CBDRA have proposed the CBDRAs i...nterest into a substantial land acquisition agreement, with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. This project has been in the planning for many years and today it has finally arrived at a good conclusion. As many are very aware, this type of venture requires an unmeasurable commitment from an aging group of the most devoted drag racing enthusiasts, possibly on the planet. This membership has endured some rough spots along the way, but once again tonight . . . they stepped up and clearly displayed their love of the sport. Club president, Gary Pozzebon outlined some of the necessary cost to get things underway and when asked for support of a donation from those in attendance, get this now raised $17,500 in under ten minutes. Now, perhaps there should be a medal created one day, for those folks that put their name on that list tonight. Its actually pretty kewl to hear the buzz around the room tonight, everyones pretty relieved to find a new home for Cape Breton Dragway or whatever we will call the new track. The 2016 season schedule is in place but weve got a real chore ahead of us and well be calling out to everyone that can help us in any way, to please contact any member of the CBDRA for direction. This new facility will run the 2016 season as an 1/8 mile track and in time will likely evolve into a 1000 drag strip. March 9th is our next CBDRA get together, and then well start planning our spring. Now, the snow levels are dropping so this possibly could get moving quickly. Thanks again to the CBDRA family for providing the previous sixteen years of racing at the McCurdy Airport and we now look forward to creating a permanent drag racing facility.
