What is Specialty Coffee?Technically speaking, specialty coffee is Arabica that has a limited number of defects in green coffee, and has a cupping score of 80+ points. However, specialty coffee goes beyond the cupping scoreit's a culmination of the continuous effort put in by the coffee producers, some of whose families have spent generations perfecting their approach to farming. This is followed by the green bean buyers and certified Q-graders, who cup a small batch of the...se coffee beans and evaluate them based on their aroma, acidity, and flavour. After the cupping and selection process, green beans are brought to roasters who develop unique roast profiles for each lot to highlight the final flavours you can taste in the cupwhether you are brewing the coffee at home or enjoying the coffee at a specialty-focused cafe where skilled baristas prepare your drink.
