I ended out 2020 with a fascinating read on some historical brethren....the Priest Hunters of 18th century Ireland.

You take anything about institutional change all the literature says you have to take a bold initial step. You have to take something that’s going to have an echo effect. That’s really going to resonate with society, says lawyer Rob Talach, The list, though, is also the kryptonite, because it shows the size and depth of the problem.
Southdown provides Church leaders with comprehensive clinical and candidate assessments. These are strictly funded by the Catholic church, only Catholic clergy and religious [orders] can attend, and most of the staff, or a large percentage of the staff are Catholic clergy or Catholic employees, notes lawyer Rob Talach, who has been involved in more than 400 cases against Catholic clergy. So at the end of the day, you have to ask: are they doing what’s best for society or doing what’s best for the Church?

The punitive damages are huge because it’s an acknowledgment that they did wrong. It’s six citizens and society judging the facts and saying this isn’t just negligence, you were part of the problem, says lawyer Rob Talach, who represented MacLeod. Talach has represented more than 400 abuse cases against the Catholic Church.
CityNews has created a Facebook group to give survivors of child sexual assault a safe place for them to know they’re not alone. This is a confidential space in hopes that those who’ve been abused by a Basilian Father or a priest from any Catholic order may want to share their story, either anonymously or with their name.
A secure and private facebook site for survivors to go and share their stories.
Church’s Systemic Silence on Clergy Sex Abuse Continues

A lot of the cases I work on in the Catholic scenario are avoidable, they didn’t have to happen, Talach said. They’re stories that didn’t have to be told, litigation that didn’t have to be pursued, if only the Church had removed the priest on first learning of their propensity to abuse.
Nick Wins CCE Award for editing PREY! Congratulations!

Catholic pedophile priest, age 96, sent to jail again for 6 more years! Never too late or too old for justice!
A great legal decision coming out of Newfoundland. I was honoured to have provided some pro bono assistance to the extraordinary legal team of Geoff Burden and Will Hiscock. Don't be mistaken though, the credit is entirely theirs. Well done and a long time coming.
Will it ever end...??
A disturbing act but has anyone considered why someone may have that intense of an axe to grind with the Diocese of SSM? Sexual abuse by a priest maybe? That is a lot of potential survivor suspects for the police to interview - hundreds!
Alberta gets it right this week by prohibiting legal name changes for sex offenders. Ontario needs to do the same. Share if you agree.
