Still waiting on official legislation. But this morning it was announced the following : - The Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS): this program had a criteria of proving a 30% drop in sales year to year for the same month, will now have to only show a drop of 15% for the month of March (no changes for April and May), and will also have the option to use Jan and Feb 2020 as a reference point instead of the same month of last year. This way starts ups or company with signifi...cant growth wont be automatically eliminated from the subsidy. Not for profit will also have the option to include or exclude government grants to show income fell by 30% or not. - Canada Summer jobs : The Government will cover 100% of the cost of hiring students for job placements, and placements can be extended into the winter, and also cover part time jobs. - The government knows about the CERB issues regarding people that are still working lesser hours and therefore not eligible for CERB. They are looking at adding benefits to workers working less than 10h a week. No further details on how this would look, and how much payment might be.

Yesterday the federal government finally tabled the legislation for some of the proposed changes that will be enacted right of way or in April to help individual and business affected by COVID-19. Part of the legislation is the new CANADA EMERGENCY RESPONSE BENEFIT ACT 'CERBA'. This is the program that was put into place to fill the holes for people that don't qualify for EI but desperately need help. In summary the program will provide a taxable benefit of $2,000 a month for... up to 4 months to: - Workers who must stop working due to COVID19 and do not have access to paid leave or other income support. - Workers who are sick, quarantined, or taking care of someone who is sick with COVID-19. - Working parents who must stay home without pay to care for children that are sick or need additional care because of school and daycare closures. - Workers who still have their employment but are not being paid because there is currently not sufficient work and their employer have asked them not to come to work. - Wage earners and self-employed individuals, including contract workers, who would not otherwise be eligible for Employment Insurance.
