Robin B. Clark Inc. carries out many Community Wildfire Protection Plans for First Nations Communities. With hot dry summers and increasing rate of wildfire in the province, CWPP's are instrumental in preventing loss to wildfire. We collect a lot of field data for these CWPP's including: tree species, ladder fuels, soil properties, and topographical information. Check out some photos from our field days... http://www.rbc.bc.ca//community-wildfire-protection-plann/

We had an amazing nature walk led by Robin Clark at the Camosun Bog last week. We learned about restoration efforts in the area, invasive blackberries, saproph...ytes, salal wine, acorn cooking, how to age trees, mosses and micro-habitats, basics of plant identification, salmonberry, sundew plants, laborador tea, how to differentiate between blueberry and huckleberry, and which fern species make delicious fiddleheads (hint: lady fern)! As warmer weather arrives, it’s important to remember the risk that wildfires may pose. Simple, but significant steps can be taken to reduce the impact of wildf...ire on properties and in communities. FireSmart is a national initiative to help property owners and communities understand how wildfires might affect areas in, and close to, forested and wildland areas. Check out BC Wildfire Service’s Prevention website section to learn the steps that individuals and communities can take to enjoy the outdoors responsibly and to reduce the susceptibility of buildings and property to fire.

This past month, Robin gave a presentation at the BC Recreation and Parks Association 39th Annual Provincial Parks & Ground Spring Training event in Langley. Robin’s presentation was on carbon offsets using trees. Here is a brief summary from the event program guide: To reach the goal of becoming carbon neutral, one needs to calculate current emissions, reduce as much as feasible and offset the remaining emissions. Community Wildfire Protection Plans Here in British Columbia where we have seen extensive wildfire damage, it is important to prevent the spread of fire into communities. The Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative (SWPI) is a suite of funding programs administered by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) and managed through the Provincial Management Working Group. Since 2004, the initiative has supported communities to mitigate risk from wildfire in the wildland urban interface [ 257 more words. ] http://www.rbc.bc.ca///community-wildfire-protection-plan/
