We are living in some historic times. To be honest I haven’t been celebrating, actually kinda sad. It’s the same feeling I get when I hear that a child finally has clean drinking water... Are our places of employment, schools, communities, churches and families any different?... It’s 2021 and I’m... - Still followed when I enter a store - Still receive terrible service despite being respectful - Still followed by cops because of my car - Still missing out on opportunities because Robin Simpson didn’t sound like young black women It’s 2021 and yet - Some people avoid talking to me because they don’t know how to approach someone with my skin colour - Some people will only talk to me because I don’t have a lace front, long nails and several tattoos. - Some people are my people and yet they walk past me. I’m not looking for sympathy because this story has been told too many times. It’s just time we all check our hearts including me because at the end of the day... Mi Plenitud (cover) I always back away from sharing this story...I guess because I want it to make sense because it doesn’t. I also feel embarrassed whenever people ask me why I sing/speak in Spanish and my reply is always no lo sé (I don’t know) because it’s true. All I know is that in August 2018 I was at an event in Toronto United Prayer Rising Canada / United Prayer Rising spending three days praying for the nation of Canada, specifically the youth, and as I was he...ading back to my seat I began to speak in Spanish randomly with no prior knowledge of the language or culture. This remains the most random moment of my life to date. I am not fluent and I have done everything to walk away from this experience so my life can go back to normal. I thank God for His grace, understanding and patience with me because it hasn’t been easy and only He knows this. I have learned a lot by singing in Spanish, reading my Bible in Spanish and watching Brittany Arroyo on YouTube. About a month ago she opened up about feeling insecure about singing in Spanish, and felt there were other people way more capable. It shocked me because I thought otherwise but I could relate 100%. God didn’t need my talent, strength, and leadership skills (I had none). He just wanted me to be a vessel - Brittany Arroyo So I am posting this video, knowing its not perfect. However, the intention isn’t perfection the intention is being a vessel for His glory and to encourage you. Is there something you feel intimidated by? Is there something you feel unqualified for? Is there something you simply do not want to do? I want to encourage you to just step, that’s all. Just Step and Stop. 2020, the womb for my birth...I am going to miss you. Positives:...I came back on Insta, fell in love with graphic design and art again, blew the dust off of @overflow_ministries , cycled 60K, launched my website, discovered I like singing, wrote a book, added a few letters and Practitioner to the end of my name, featured in a campaign for a hospital and initiative dear to my heart, premiered my first Short Film Exodus: a story and a song and so much more. Do you see now wh...y I took some time off You may just see a list, but I see so much more...I see a birthing and I only share this to remind you that nothing is impossible.
