Robin Nishibata for Teulon Town Council 10.12.2020

My name is Robin Nishibata and I have lived in Teulon for 10 years with my children. I am a mother to my two boys, Jayse and Keaton, a step mom to my partner Vaughn’s children Carly and Cody, and a foster parent to my two nieces. I am the Executive Director for the Selkirk Friendship Centre and have worked for them for 16 years. I have decided to run for council because I love our community and would like the opportunity to use my life and work experience to make a differenc...e and lead our community into a positive direction of change. I have been the Executive Director of the Selkirk Friendship Centre Inc. for 8 years and prior to that I was the Assistant Executive Director for 5 years. The Selkirk Friendship Centre is a non-profit charitable organization. Through this work I have a great deal of experience writing grant proposals and finding funding opportunities. I also work with Friendship Centres on a provincial and national level and have experience with committee work as well as running meetings. I have worked on programs and projects that target community programming with youth, addictions, homelessness, drug prevention, children and families, housing and more. In this work experience I have developed my role as a team player having worked for a Board of Directors and overseeing over 40 staff for the past 16 years. In addition to my work experience, I also sit on a variety of committees and boards in the Interlake and surrounding area. I am the Chair of the Ducks Unlimited Canada Gander Girls, Co-Chair for Growing Years Family Resource Centre, and a committee member for Interlake Sexual Exploitation Educators (ISEE) and Age Friendly Selkirk. I also Co-Chair the Provincial Committee for the Manitoba Aboriginal Head Start, I am a board member for the Indigenous Advisory Board for homelessness as well as the Rural and Remote Advisory Board. I love coming home to Teulon every day and I want all of our community members to feel that way. I will work hard to close the gaps in our programming, implement positive change, and provide open and honest discussions with those I serve.
