Snow Babies were created as reusable cake toppers in the 1890s by Johann Moll, a German confectioner, based on early nineteenth century sugar dolls used as Christmas decorations. They were reintroduced as a collectible by Department 56 around 1960 or so when they gained huge popularity. Today they are difficult to find and we have been asked repeatedly to bring them in for our collectors. They truly are charming with a message attached to each one. Puzzling Perfection: A cold, frosty morning, a hot cup of coffee and a new puzzle. I love how puzzles can take over a kitchen table and in between the hustle and bustle of a busy day, everyone who comes near it has to take a shot at finding a few pieces. Coffee, Tea and COOKIES The Lancaster Brick Schoolhouse which up until last December was full of Chocolate and Christmas houses. Because of closing , it was empty until June 1 whereupon Rob McIntosh leased it to be opened as a Cafe. With many complications related to the times etc., the lessee only opened for 3 days during the last 3 months. So...back to Rob McIntosh...we have had a hoot starting this building from scratch again. We of course are going to fill it with c...hocolate, a new shortbread cookie called Mary Macleod's shortbread (which is so...good), our Crazy Cookies (we hope), coffee locally roasted by a company we love called Coffey's Coffee, and brand new, tea by A Cup of Kindness Tea Company who using organic tea leaves and locally sourced herbs, spices and floral accents when possible changes their flavours according to the season. This is only the Coffee, Tea and Cookies aspect. Christmas at its best- full of fun, whimsy, beauty and love. Lots and lots of stuff to buy or just to enjoy.
