More and more people are receiving calls similar to the one in the call below. I get at least a dozen a week, but I know the warning signs to look for. Service Canada, for example, doesn't have a branch that can issue warrants or execute arrests. It doesn't matter what government branch it is though, most do not call you and most do not threaten in this way. Most will send you mail documentation. People who are most at risk are elderly people who are not connected via so...cial media and who have no idea these frauds are being perpetrated and new Canadians and foreign nationals who don't know the processes of our government. Never trust anyone who calls you for personal information. If a government official is calling you, they already know your relevant personal information. You are more likely to receive requests by letter. Sometimes you may receive requests by email, but take care there ase well. Ensure that the return email address is a valid governemnt email address. If you aren't sure, go to the actual government website and contact them yourself. NEVER give out personal information under any circumstances. It's particularly necessary to let elderly people, particularly those who don't participate in social media, hear the examples and to be aware that these are scams! We are in a particularly vulnerable time at the moment. People are afraid, and panic is setting in so people will be more vulnerable to such attacks. My little cousin, Ford is participating in a fund raising drive for pediatric cancer research. Cancer is a disease that affects us all, no matter where in the world we live.
