Monday's Mother Nature Moment. Picture is from this evening- #rufoushummingbird showing off his colors. Flaring the tail and rasing wings is sign of strength towards intruders. These guys are soo cool! Smallest migratory bird and they fly alone, some over 2000miles/ 3200km twice a year. They are the only bird that can fly backwards. They have no sense of smell and go by colors. And they have a great memory - they remember flowers they have been to and how long it will take a flower to refill.

Monday Mother Nature Moment - Today will be about antlers. Deer grow antlers every year to impress ladies in fall rut season. New study shown deer uses genes that are normally involved in cancer formation to help them grow antlers that fast. The growth of antler is more like a bone cancer than a typical bone growth. Yet those genes are not harming them. Deer have one-fifth the cancer rate than other mammals. Probably because antler cells have also several cancer-suppressing ...genes. Source National Geographic. For the past several winter seasons I did short Mother Nature Moment's as a part of Monday morning meetings and thinking to bring it online. Maybe it will make some people happy. :) Soo :) Let's talk nature's generous home builders with a taste for fashion! This gorgeous Pileated Woodpecker with fancy red crest that gave them their name. Those guys excavate large nest (sometimes too large it snaps the tree in half), they use it for one year and leave to build another one.
